Certain welsh insurance company taking the p1ss
Discussion
Morning all.
Just been talking to someone at work... they've recently took out an insurance policy (about 3 weeks ago the policy began) and this weekend he was delivered a letter stating that he is going to be charged £115 additional premium because they have found discrepancies in their computer system.
The additional charge is for an "engine chip 11-25 inc BHP" - a modification he doesn't have.
Obviously he's phoned up and complained/asked them to remove the charge but they are saying he must take his car to an approved garage, at his cost, in order to prove he doesn't have an engine chip installed.
We think it's due to him doing a quote on a remapped car out of interest earlier in the year.
Anyone had this happen to them?
Going to ring them back today and hopefully get through to the Welsh call centre rather than the Indian one.

I had the exact same thing happen to me with this company.
When car shopping late last year, one of the cars I was looking it had a remap on it, so I included that in the quote for that car.
I didn't end up buying that car, but somehow they seemed to blend the quote I had for that car with the one I ended up buying (which most definitely has no remap - you'd have to be pretty sad to remap a N/A engine), so received a letter in the post a couple of weeks after taking out the policy informing me that I was very naughty for not saying this car had a remap and I was being charged a couple of hundred quid or so.
It took a very insistent phone call for them to correct it, but they did. Bad luck that your mate is having to go to a garage.

update:
Insurance company once again told him to get the car to a garage and prove he didn't have an ECU remap, so he said okay then but I'd like to file an official complaint... a few minutes later the charge was removed
Weird or what?
Not really if a complaint escalates it can end up costing more to deal with the complaint than it is to waiver the charge.Insurance company once again told him to get the car to a garage and prove he didn't have an ECU remap, so he said okay then but I'd like to file an official complaint... a few minutes later the charge was removed
