Hi, i was wondering if anyone can help me?
I own a Lancia Y10 GTi.e. 1301cc It's made in Brazil and it's a very rare and complicated engine.
The problem i have at the moment is that the car wont fire up easily when the engine is cold.
So im hoping with this forum i can get my little car working properly again.

Thanks.

Could be a whole variety of things!

Probably an engine management fault, setting the mixture wrong for a cold start. Any good indy garage should be able to read the fault codes and let you know. Hopefully, this will be a cheap and straightforward fix.

Is it sparking ok? Normal test is to remove each plug in turn and hold it very close to the block with a pair of insulated pliers, still attached to its plug lead and turn the engine over. Change any old plugs with a weak spark. Re-gap and clean them with a wire brush otherwise. How old are the plug leads? Change them if they're over say 5 years old or show signs of wear and tear, cracking etc.

Is fuel pressure ok? Check at the filter end inside the engine bay.

When was the air filter last changed? Is it claarty?

How new is the battery? Might not be holding charge long enough to give a decent spark overnight, but ok just after the alternator has charged it up.

They're the easy checks for any car - not sure about anything more specific for an old lancia.

Funky little car by the way!

Hey thanks for your post reply, I am a mechanic and all of the above you mentioned have either been replaced with new or checked over. I think there might be a problem with the choke, it's automatic and there is two little pipes that go through the inlet manifold for the water. The thing is, i had the car working perfectly but then the head gasket was blown so i did the job.The car is running great apart when i eventually get it going. It wants to go, it kind of does aswell but it turns of. A few goes of trying and then it fires and it stays running as long as you dont rev the engine for a seconds. Then it's ok and works on low revs for a minute till it's hot enough for the choke to kick in and bring it up to normal revs. I dont know if any of this makes any sense to you but it's driving me mad.
The joys of owning a Lancia. i love them....
Cheers..

Nice bit of kit. The 1301 engine is the N/A version of the Series 1 Uno Turbo that was fitted to the Uno SX so parts aren't that hard to come by. Sounds like a blocked jet nothing a good service won't resolve.

All the best. wink

Yes, sorry. With my Uno I fitted a set of CBR600 carb's before any issues with the injection system and sold the bits on eBay for more than I paid the car.
