Guys,
I wont know until Weds 8th if I can go or not.
If its good to go then
1/ Cant I get a general admission ticket at the main gate?
2/ Does anyone know of anywhere that allows you to turn up and pitch a tent

1) Yes
2) Don't know, sorry, but I'm sure it's not unachievable. Worst case scenario, we stay in a nice campsite about 15km away and travel in (usually snooze in the car Saturday night), and I can let you know where that is.

On two occasions I have made a very late decision to go to Le Mans solo. Both times I booked Eurotunnel for late Friday, drove overnight, arrived at around 04:00 Saturday, parked up in Parking Blanc, kipped for maybe 5-6 hours, watched the race (further kip Sunday morning from 01:00 to around 06:00), then more of the race, left the curcuit immediately after the race, drove back to Eurotunnel and then got home and had a bath and great sleep!

What you'll notice is that I already had a parking ticket, and I also had a GE and tribune ticket too. I would not repeat this without the certainty of having all these documents before I left the UK.

Very doable and enjoyable but it is tiring. If I was going to do it again I'd be tempted to get to a hotel on the Sunday somewhere in France on the way back to Eurotunnel, perhaps north of Rouen, and then get home Monday.

we have bought our general admission tickets on the gate for many years, never a problem with them.
not sure wether there is a capacity limit on the gate ?

You can camp in the field just off the junction west of the main entrance on the main by pass road.

The field is opened up on the Thursday, about 25 Euros for 4 nights.

We did this twice and it was open last year.

I'll try to find a map and pinpoint it for you.
