Have just sold my house, and relocating to a new area, and am having trouble finding a new home with double garage.

Have come up with another option - single garage with 4 post car lift, keep Chim on top, allowing wife to park her baby underneath thus saving the cost/space of building and can get rid of jacks, ramps and axle stands.

Could this be a practical solution, our daily driver would be kept outside, so it would be ok if it was a little fiddly getting cars in and out.

Advise needed please.

Andy

Will you be getting 3 phase wiring installed - most 4 posts are 415v.

Check out http://www.hamercarlift.com/ for a relative cheap option.

For a "proper" 4 post running at 240v single phase, try http://www.strongmantools.co.uk/

No experience of using either but I was pondering something similar recently and these were the best options from my googling session.

I have a Hamer if you need to know anything about them.

I also looked at other options such as the Strongman kit, but for the cost and practicality the Hamer is a great option

There's a thread I started about this and someone posted an alternative

How much of a faff do you find using the farm jacks to lift the car? Am waivering over a Hamer & seeing the secondhand prices in your other thread it doesn't look too much of a risk if I decide to upgrade in future.

Its not a faff at all. Other than walking around and around the car jacking up each corner a bit.

I can have the car in the air in 10 mins on my own.

I've just been through a similar process of evaluating which lift, although my need is a little different to yours.

At the risk of teaching you to suck eggs....
Make sure that you think through all the dimensions and calculations very carefully or you could spend ££££s and find it doesn't work! For instance, if it's an up and over garage door, will it go up and over with the lift posts in position? Will there be enough room for the underneath car, plus the thickness of the platform and the Chim without hitting whatever rafters/roof the garage has. Since one of my garages is at an angle to the drive I even had to evaluate steering approaches to make sure that the car wouldn't fall off the platforms!

I have the 4 post supplied by the Dutch bloke, only got it for storage but it is so handy for working on my toys. Best thing I ever bought [except for the Griff and Elan]
