Line drawings from photo's

Anyway, for a small project at work creating a user instruction manual for a new tool, I could do with some photo's convering to a line drawing. Half a dozen, ten at the most.

A google search brings up loads of suggestions, but would prefer a recomendation.

I imagine PS would do it using the filters section.

I used to use RasterVect for this very same purpose (technical illustrations for instruction manuals) - but this converted them into DXF files for using CAD so not sure if you wish to use this format for your manual drawings.

Its easy, I used to spend hours no nights in the darkroom playing with lithographic paper creating positives and negatives and sandwiching them together and then making another shining light at weird angles and more positives and negatives

now ps does it in no time at all!

Thanks for the replies. I don't have PS but I suppose buying it would be cheaper than commissioning someone to do the work for me.

Depends on the image, don't count on good results from PS without a lot of extra work....if the images are well lit and on a contrasting background it might be ok, but personally I'd go for the manually drawn option. Design/engineering students would probably be happy to draw them up for some beer money, much cheaper than buying PS I would have thought?

Good call tim, hadn't thought of that.

They are pretty basic pictures really. It's a diagnostic tool for onother tool. It has two guages, one vacuum, one pressure and vacuum, and depending on the setting of the tool the guages will show certain values. In the pictures I have there is so much detail on the guages and the tool settings etc it is hard to see what you need to see, so a basic line drawing will make it much easier.
