Hi all,

Sinking a hot tub under a raised terrace as per my other thread. As such it wont be seen and i'd like to put as much sound deadening material around it as possible to attempt to quash as much pump noise as possible.

Anyone have any ideas?

Polystyrene?

My hot tub makes hardly any noise - certainly wouldn't worry about sound insultating.

To block pump noise you need mass and isolation, so no, polystyrene will do SFA or vibrate and make it worse!
I doubt you could ever do much from the users' point of view above manufacturer's installation instructions, but if you want to stop noise spreading from the immediate vicinity I guess you'd have to sink it into a full-depth cast concrete or brick lined pit.

I used rolls of space blanket loft insulation in mine. Only marginally reduced the noise but made a difference insulating the internal piping.

Perhaps scoot down to your local hot tub supplier and turn one on?
