Keeping up with timing..

Since there is no Kangaroo.tv / FanVision this year, is there a good way to keep up to date with realtime lap stats?

The field size is huge, unlike typical F1/Touring cars its almsot impossible to gauge who in what position (exception being 1/2/3 with lights on the side) but its hard to see who is catching who..

Mobile data charges on my network are expensive (£5 per 1mb or £6 per day data pass for 25mb) so i'd prefer not to have to keep refreshing a flash page for updates - and after Spa the LMS website left me unimpressed as timings were all over the place and delayed at that..

Are there screens anywhere , or a good alternative method of keeping tabs?

I'm planning on taking a portable radio with me with earphones to keep tabs on whats what with Radio LeMans (hoping it's in english ?!?)

Anyone know of a good visual timing board anywhere?

I'm camping at Karting Nord, i recall there being a huge screen near the big wheel on the opposide side of the track but its a trek to see it.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Portable radio tuned to Le Mans radio is all you really need - it's all in English and the coverage, I think is really good. I certainly find it the best way to keep up to speed with all that's going on.

Hourly position sheets are printed by the ACO and can be picked up at their buildings, but obviously you get a gap in knowledge if you just rely on them.

There's several giant screens around the track which often switch from tv coverage to the timesheets (although it's a bit vague and just shows the marque and number).

RLM will do a round-up each hour on the half-hour.

The ACO broadcast poeitiones regularly over the Tannoy but always in French of course, but there is occasional English updates...not good really.

A pocket radio tuned to RLM, 91.2, plus headphones is all you need. They give regular hourly (at least) updates on the leaders in each class. But it's also the chat related to the race and the event that makes RLM so very good.

Also, RLM works in your car within maybe a 10 miles max radius of the circuit.

Anyone care to reccomend a good radio to purchase online? so many to choose from, and i've seen DAB ones not being reccomended.

anything cheap & small which takes FM. Tesco's , Argos the usual suspects will be fine

Athough no longer available, I use an old Aiwa AM/FM pocket radio plus Sony decent headphones: perfect. You can splash out on a Peltor set of headphones with built in radio which are quite popular at LM etc too.

Digital seems best avoided.
