Trouble keeping boot closed
Discussion
My boot doesn't seem to want to stay shut for some reason. I don't mean it pops open while driving along, I mean it just doesn't lock properly.
I had to break in to jump start recently, and the battery just drained very quickly which I think was because this problem is also causing the boot light to stay on.
Attempts so far:
- I thought it could be the emergency boot release wire keeping the mechanism jammed open. The wire was indeed still pulled out, but even after pushing it back no joy.
- I thought the protruding metal bar (sorry, don't know techie names), that is part of the boot lid might not be sticking down far enough to fully engage the latch mechanism when the boot lid shuts, so I adjusted it to sit lower. I can certainly now hear the latch moving round but it won't hold shut.
- I've used a screwdriver to simulate the bolt engaging the latch and I can just pull it back out without any real effort, so this implies the latch is not doing its job.
What next?

I've had the same issue after having to use the emergency entry. Mine seems to have been resolved by making sure the emergency boot release wire keeping the mechanism jammed open is pushed back in properly. It has taken some fiddling to get it right but has cured it finally. May be worth trying fiddling with it again.

Thanks, I will try again but last night I couldn't seem to get it to make a difference.Daston said:
in regards to your boot opening, check the clip on the boot (not sure of its technical name) I had to drop mine down a few mm to make it connect fully with the catch.
I tried this. Originally I wasn't sure if the mechanism was engaging, but since dropping down the clip it sits plenty low enough to engage the latch, but just comes back out again if you pull up on the boot lid (and you don't need much force, you'd barely know the latch had engaged except you can just about hear it).Any more ideas guys?
