…is there such a thing? I'm guessing not, and Google says likewise, but it's always worth trying the PH massive.

Interesting, but I presume this Libert-box thing just speeds me through the tolls and doesn't give any discount on the actual tolls?

They do exist - look for the big "T" signs at toll booths. You have to pay a subscription plus the tolls though - so that's stopped us doing it as we only travel (albeit frequently) on quiet autoroutes.

They charge £7 for the loan of the box and then add 9% to the toll bill, so this is not really for us. Thanks for the info though.

It's not a very sensible business model!

It reminds me of booking cinema tickets online that you collect from the machines in the foyer - I'm doing you a favour by not queuing, meaning you can deal with more people quickly and efficiently and eventually you can employ less staff....yet you charge me an additional cost for this "service"!

Don't get me started on trying to get a refund when I've paid the additional charge and the machines are out of order and I have to queue anyway....

That would be very annoying. More work needed by les Francais methinks. You'd think they'd offer a tourist rate at least, to encourage people to abandon planes in favour of their cars and put more tourist dollar into the French economy.

And how would you feel if the Dartford Crossing/M6 Toll/Severn Bridge was cheaper for foreigners? smile

As I don't get the money for that, no problem! smile If we had Govt tolls here I'd be in favour of cheaper rates for tourists though as it's a positive generator of income from people who might otherwise not bother coming over here for driving hols.

Here in Athens any car owner can get an e-Pass subscription which gives a free electronic reader, dedicated auto barriers and discount of 10% or more on the cash toll rate. So, quicker and cheaper.

I think this sort of thing is what the OP was after.

Reading their website, however, leads me to believe that tourists (non-residents) would have a hard time getting one! So the Greeks can join the back of the motorway-toll-tourist-ePass-fail queue, behind the French. smile
