This topic probably doesn't matter to most of you as I know there are a lot of low mileage cars out there, but unfortunately, my car has to earn its living and does over 600(very enjoyable!)miles per week. What I want to know is why when you buy a Corvette or a Monaro, you have 10000 mile service intervals, but my car with the same engine has 6000 mile intervals. Every service leaves me with a bill for over £400 and considerable hassle as I live in Norwich and Linden are in Northampton, meaning pricey collection from a halfway point as I don't have the time to take off work to take a day off every 10 weeks to get my car serviced. Most of my miles are motorway miles, would it really do any harm to stretch my intervals to 10000 miles? It would certainly help my pocket!

Having recently owned a Z28 which was supposed to have the oil change at every 10k, the oil change light came on time after time around the 5k mark. The light comes on based on viscosity of the oil at a certain temperature. So even with full synthetic in the oil change was needed. Its not the oil that breaks down its the other contaminents from the engine that needs removing.

Other Z28 drivers changed oil as low as 3k. I'd say that was the extreme, but I know we all like to look after our cars.

Oil life is a massive topic - one to which I am no expert.

Stick to the 6k and in my opinion you wont go wrong.

Sorry the bills will continue to roll

400 pounds to service a car? hoooly doooly!
I hope it got a gold plated oil filter!
I would service it from here at my local dealer, freighting the vehicle in by air and freighting it back again and I reckon I would still make money!!!!
Hopefully now Vauxhall have the Monaro they will service the car for you at a more reasonable price!
I can understand parts being expensive and such but I cannot work out how it could cost 400 pounds! Unless you were having new brakes or something like that.
I service my car every 10,000kms and it costs about $160 or so. For an oil change at mid term ie every 5000kms it costs about $50 to $100 depending on what oil is used. But they build the cars there I guess you could say......Still sounds a bit expensive! Try and see how much the dealers are servicing them for???
Alternatively I can send you the servicing section of the Manual and you can do it yourself or DIY as it is over there!!!!!!!!

Sounds like servicing every 10,000 miles but with an oil change at the half way point might be a fair compromise. When I get a chance I will post a breakdown of the bills for servicing. I have made enquiries with Vauxhall about servicing and once I got them to realise the Monaro wasn't a van and got in touch with the correct dealership, I was told by Thurlow Nunn of Kings Lynn that they had no idea of servicing costs yet. They said the only Monaro they knew they had sold was a 3.8 litre which is, they say, also the engine size of their demonstrator. When I questionned them about the 5.7, they said Vauxhall may introduce this later on as a 'special'. I think there is a very real danger that Vauxhall are actually making these cars so hard to buy through a lack of knowledge within their dealerships, even the 16 so called specialists, that the car may end up being killed off, because the corporate suits will think there was insufficient demand. The lack of professionalism is an absolute joke and enough to put off any prospective purchaser.

Sounds like you guys lucky enough to own the mean machines need to voice your concerns to chairman Kevin Wale at Vauxhall, after all, he was at HSV for ten years.
