After getting 6points last year from a camera van, i decided to invest in a Road Angel.
It's worked fine up until last week when it failed (along with me)to pick up another van. 89mph in a 70mph zone so i'm guessing another 3points and a £40ish fine (am i right?)
That would make 9points on my licence for the next 4yrs so the chances of avoiding a loss of licence seem slim to me with the amount of cameras about and not being able to trust my Road angel anymore either! (Anyone else had probs?)

Firstly, Road Angel can't really be expected to pick up a van - it's not a continuously-updated realtime system after all. It is mainly intended for fixed-site installations.

Secondly, the penalty for "perverting the course of justice" is far worse than having 9 points on your licence.

I would think very hard before considering this, especially after announcng your intentions on a public forum.

Do you believe the CPS or FPO read any of this?

No i don't expect them to read it else i would not have posted it!
How do you know? We have Police Officers, magistrates, lawyers and all sorts on PistonHeads. And those are just people who contribute (and hence are visible). There are over 33,000 registered users on PistonHeads, and it is also possible to read posts without registering. Furthermore, PH is extensively scanned by Google, so a Google search will often serve up PH content.

So you really don't know who will read anything you post, either now or several years down the line.

Any constructive comments people?!
I'm sorry if you thought my comments weren't constructive. They were intended to be, but perhaps the fact that they weren't what you wanted to hear made them seem that way to you.

So, anyone who works in the ticket processing office that is reading this is looking for someone caught at 89 in a 70 (not sure where in the Country though). It should be pretty easy to find it was a Diesel, I mean come on how many can there be!

I'd guess if it was only going to be 3 points and £60 then the insurance wouldn't even be checked (I don't know though). Would be best to find someone who has insurance though.

Also as said above if the road Angel beeps at a laser you've probably already been done.

ONLY defense to laser is a jammer.

with .3 of a second to get a lock there is not much hope otherwise.

So wot's the point of having a laser detector if it's too late anyway?!

Spoke to a guy at work and he got his dad to take points for him else he would loose his licence and no questions were asked as his dad had ins on his own car that was fully comp and covered him to drive any other car 3rd party.

You were naughty, you got caught. Live with it!! 3 points and £60 is the least you'll get away with - perverting the course of justice carries a potential prison sentence, remember.

It can detect the car(s) in front of you being caught by the laser, so giving you a second or two's worth of warning.

It's a hazard of modern living, getting caught for speeding. So if you can't live with the penalty, it's best not to speed I suppose. Trying to blame someone else for it isn't clever - and announcing it on a public forum is probably even less clever.

I agree. No point in assuming the worst. Get it confirmed first. If they have ballsed up on the footage (which is quite possible) you could walk away scot free. There is no fool proof protection against scamera vans. Laser diffusers offer circa 5 secs jamming time before a fix on your speed, also offering an audible warning letting you know you have 5 seconds to get down to the speed limit.

I'm sure this is a legal issue at the moment. The ABD seems to putting stuff on the website re this.

Can you please point me to some of these threads as I’m not sure what you mean and what it will achieve by delaying the inevitable?!

Otherwise things are going fine thanks, the Griffs in the garage as usual as I’m too scared to take it out now and get another stupid 3points and loose my licence forever!
