I know that this subject has had many threads posted about it and lots of suggestions offered.... so here's one more !

Rather than having a PH sticky sticker etc. why not have a search option in the members area, where you can enter a reg no. The reg no. would be held within the members profile - if your profile is public people can find it if not etc. also if yo uhave a public profile you could chose to leave it blank if you didn't want to advertise you reg no.

So how about it Ted? all you'd have to do is add a field into the profile page, and a search option, then when we see a TVR we can find out if they are a fellow PH member and drop em' a mail !!!

Yep, been thinking along similar lines myself. I'd give it an anonymous option, so a search can be done and the car found but you'll be able to email the person but not identify them etc.

Another one for the list...

In general a good idea - but I would hate for the information to be leaked in anyway so that someone could get hold of your name and your registration plate.... just open to something (cant think what, but something).

Anonymously would be good...

Cheers,

Paul

How about a more discreet sticker on the no. plate.... for those that don't want to plaster their cars with adhesive...

How about if Pistonheads provides everyone with a mailbox, matching their Pistonheads account name. So mine would be GreenV8S@pistonheads.com. Then we can clag stickers with our Pistonheads Email addresses all over the car and people seeing the car would know exactly who was who. If you want to mail the owner, you can do that directly using their pistonheads email address and some Pistonheads magic forwards the mail to the email address in that member's profile.

Good idea in principle, but can't see Ted going for that - people could start giving out that as their main email address and before you know it, Ted is a 20Gb per day mail relay - nope - after all, hosting costs per megabyte transferred and email can consume a lot of that if you're relaying..

I'm content just to wave to other TVR owners (not that I ever see any, anyhow) and join in the threads on here – I'm unlikely to want to plaster MikeyT@pistonheads.com down the side of my car – sorry – but it's not THAT important!

For those of you down south who seem to spend all day passing each other in Surrey/Sussex/Hants on the way to your next IT contract and are desperate to know who each other is, then good luck to you – if I see another TVR that's fine – but I'm not gagging to know the shoe size of the driver!

I'm gonna buy some 3/4" letraset and write my Pistonhead name on the little window behind the door.
Forgive me for not checking beforehand, but what sizes to the PH stickers come in? Any about 6 inches across??

PH sticky stickers are six inches across

Mailboxes are an unlikely feature really. Given the work required to implement them versus the amount they'd actually be used it's not a good use of time. There are other issues with allowing use of 'pistonheads.com' in email addresses too.

Going back to the original idea though, I will implement something like that. Might be useful for people trying to find previous owners etc.

The whole point of this thread was to get away from the 'lets put hundreds of stickers on our cars' approach we all have profiles, some of us make them public, it's the same things with the licence plate, if you want to add it to your profile you could then if a fellow PH see a TVR they can search for the no. and bingo see the profile or as Ted suggested you can e-mail the person via PH so no one gets to see your e-mail address !! much better than 'i saw a pink and green Chimaera topics that get posted

Why not have the option of customising the pistonheads sticker with the Nickname at the bottom replacing the "speed matters" bit at the bottom...

Obviously this would cost more, but if people wanted it they could pay the extra...

Logistics/cost are prohibative.
