Economical & appreciating daily driver.
Discussion
As I always point out in response to these threads, what you buy is largely irrelevant. How much you pay is the key factor. Any car can be depreciation proof over 12 months if you buy it at the right price. In your case, the fact you intend to use the car as a daily driver means you may not be able to keep it very long before the increasing mileage takes its toll on value.
I don't mean buying a scruffy example for a rock bottom price, I mean a good, well-maintained car at a bargain price that the owner needs rid of quickly. There's always someone who's left the sale of their car until the last minute when they're moving house/emigrating/changing jobs/having a baby/etc.
You need to keep a sharp eye on the classifieds and be first on the phone to arrange a viewing. A willingness to travel anywhere at the drop of a hat helps too. With any luck, a year down the line you'll be able to sell it on for what you paid (sometimes even a little more).
As for what to buy, to stand the best chance of recouping your money, I'd recommend something that fellow owners wave at. Seriously - anything made in limited numbers that's now out of production and has cult status amongst car enthusiasts won't be too hard to sell on to a buyer eager to find out what all the fuss is about.

impossible. The only cars at 10k which are likely to be depreciation proof (other than mentioned above - simply a car bought for below market value) are not cars that are likely to do 15k per annum without complaints. if you want something economical that won't loose much money, get something cheap to start with - a £500 306 can only loose £400 as that's what it's worth as scrap

...well at least something that won't depreciate.
As economical (+40mpg) as possible to do 60m daily
Between £10-15K
Or is this an impossibility?
You want an economical daily driver that does 40MPG costs under 15K and will actually appreciate in value?...well at least something that won't depreciate.

Not possible in my opinion. Otherwise we all would do it.
I would think even limiting depreciation will be challenge, you'll just have to watch the classifieds as per the above suggestion.
About the only real way I can think of doing it would be to buy something with a serious mechanical fault that required cheap parts but lots of labour and then do the work yourself. This of course would require you to not only find an appropriate vehicle but to have the time and know-how to fix it.

Does it need to be one of those self maintaining cars as well?...well at least something that won't depreciate.

Doing 15k miles per year will cause every single £10-15k car to depreciate. If you were doing 5k per year you might get away with it in the right car....well at least something that won't depreciate.

To avoid depreciation with that mileage you'd have go for a worthless car (as mentioned earlier) or perhaps a cheaper car that has a reputation for coping with mega miles - perhaps something like a £3-5k W123/W124/W201/W126 Merc - perhaps buyers of these cars may not mind if they have 200k-300k miles on the clock.
