Right then. I own 4 MGBs which I store in a rented barn. My landlord from whom I rent the barn is in his mid eighties.
He has asked me for help as he has got himself into a right pickle. He bought an 03 plated suzuki ignis auto which he cannot drive as the seat room is not enough (don't even go there with details)!! He is a very tall bloke and is looking for a car, easy to enter and get out of but also small engined (circa 1400/1500cc) automatic with max leg room....Any ideas? My offerings of the idea of getting a jag at his age just for fun didn't sink in! He does about 5 miles a week!!(His wife reckons he should pack up driving, but his strong resolve says other)!! Any ideas as to what to look at???? cheers.

Exactly how tall is he? I'm 6'3"ish (which I realise doesn't put me in the 'very tall' category these days, but there you go - relatively long legs though) and I find ample space behind the wheel of my MINI.

He's around 6'5" but also has effin great feet. He is looking to spend circa £2500. He's asked me to accompany him on Sat and drive his ignis (which he'll trade in)Car mustn't be too low from the ground........Flamin nightmare!!

Toyota Yaris. Rented one on Tenerife for a day and I had no problem driving it being 6'5 and photo-model length legs wink

Also, Skoda Fabia...

honda jazz? slightly cliched old folks car, and possibly a hard ride, but available in small auto flavour and generally well designed.

Sounds like he needs a small but tall thing then. Merc A-class? Suzuki WagonR? Alternatively, small 4x4? Terios, Jimny, Shogun Pinin?

His previous car was a waggonR so we could be near the mark here.Never thought of an A class...don't know what the leg room is like.

Grandad (mid-80's) had a Micra (around 2006 reg). He kinda had the same situation, he needed a car that was eaier to get into as he has a doggy knee. Last year he part-ex'd it for a 56reg Fiesta 5dr and that is much better. I did suggest a Ford Fusion as it is a little higher but he didnt like it. He also thought about an automatic until he told him not too, giving plenty of examples of old people crashing them into houses and a local M&S.

Being 6' 5" with long legs, size 13 feet and having recently tried a few small cars...

Suzuki Swift - great! Loads of leg & headroom. Seat comfort questionable though.
Honda Jazz - headroom OK but irritating centre console which hits the side of my leg. Not so good.
Yaris - see Swift.
Skoda Fabia - average. Legroom OK, seats felt tiny though, base was very short.
Mini - average.
Seat Ibiza - avoid!

Getting some great feedback here, many thanks. I think looking for an automatic of some of your mentioned models in East anglia, and me getting home early are looking exceedingly slim this Sat.!!

Maybe pay a local place to fabricate a pair of longer seat runners?

Well, the outcome was today. I went with him to look at a Suzuki swift auto. which after haggling he bought. It has slightly more room than his ignis.
