Was having a nosey of the classifieds earlier, you really find out what sort of person you are when you spend most of a 2 hour study session craving for 10 minutes of Pistonheads!! :P

Anyway this advert got me thinking...
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2754304.htm

A decent spec V8 Vantage for under £36k. Was just woundering where the value of these things will stop! With Porsche, Aston and even Ferrari, making thousands more cars every year, and bringing out smaller and more diverse models alongside the 'traditional' models in the line up. Which are argueably reducing the 'premium' of the brand.

Obviously fuel costs and insurance etc have a large effect. If they keep going down at this rate, they might even be a viable option in a few years!! smile

I reckon they'll plato around the low 20's in time. Just look how much DB7 you can get for 20k.

Yeah, that would be my guess. Ropey ones will probably fall into the teens.

Fact is fuel costs and insurance costs are irrelevant for these cars.

Also the bug cost is actually running them the servicing or when things fail you could buy a DB7 for Goft GTI edition 30 money however that's where the similarity ends.

People cannot contemplate the DRC issue on the rs6's which the cars only cost £12k up to mid £20's yet a new drc isn't far off the cost of the actual car ie £10k for suspension.

Consider that fact that some idiots don't change their cambelts costing c600 on a £10k run of the mill car - how about £4k for a Ferrari job and of course the other service items.

The final thing is you cannot skimp on the servicing of these cars as part of the reason you buy them at these prices is the fact they will probably not lose anything but you need to spend cash on full servicing otherwise diy or backstreet etc servicing you'll take a bath on depreciation too

As said, I think you have your answer there.

3k for the service and a 12 month warranty? Given the likely running costs, £36k appears extortionate! That said, I passed one of these on an 05 plate today sitting at 48k from the dealer and thought it was a bit of a steal. But the running costs will always be the killer; hence the depreciation.

I may be wrong but the sheer volume of these types of cars sold when times were pretty good has had an effect on secondhand values especially with the present economic problems, high fuel prices and dealers etc needing to turn stock over even at break even prices etc.

As said a million times, that price is simply a down payment on the real costs to come - running and repairing used high end exotica.

It's just under £40K with the service it's due. What were they new in 2005, £80K?

If so it's half new cost at six years old.

Most cars are at roughly half cost at three years old, and I've just bought a lower mileage but same age Merc at not much more than 1/3 its new price, so I'd say the depreciation on this is very reasonable indeed!
