How long are you planning to stay for?

Evening folks. As I mentioned in a previous post, a friend and I will be attending this year for the first time and we're just starting to get ourselves organised. We are debating how long to stay for, are the campsite passes generally for the whole week? I quite like the idea of doing a bit of touring around both on site and off, is this something any of you have done? Obviously if you've got the pitch all week it makes sense to make the most of it!(providing it doesn't push costs up too much!) Also, we've yet to buy a camping pass, any suggestions? What's the deal with private vs public camping?

Sunday 5th to Monday 13th, scrutineering in Le Mans, on monday 6th, I have always enjoyed the whole week.
