Looks like I might have a new job in Old Street, central London. I live in Henley on Thames, South Oxfordshire. I hate trains with a passion and have always managed to drive to my jobs in the past (longest daily commute 65miles each way).
The question: Is this one possible?
I have a TDCi Focus for the job but its time of commute. AA Autoroute says 43 miles and 1 hr 19 mins. I plan to leave say 6.00am eta 7.30am and again leave 5.00pm.

Does anybody else do similar commute or am I mad.
Anybody want a car share??

Yes. Even a 6am start will see you hit trafic, not to mention the 5pm journey home. If you must travel by car then consider an earlier start/end to your day.

Otherwise look at why you don't like the train and see if you can mitigate. Leaving at 6am will see a lot fewer passengers. If you don't like noisy buggers on their phone then get a jammer.

I hate the train too but I'm close enough to cycle in.

My rule for a commute into London in the morning rush is to add an hour to the journey time. So forget it. You'll be paying the £30 day for parking too.

I commute daily from Reading to Kensington every day.
I leave the house at 6.30am, straight run down the m4, average time is about an hour.
I have a private parking space which costs me £5 per day, drive a smart which costs about £8 per day to run.
I leave work between 5 and 9 depending on how lucky I am.
When the traffic is bad, it is REALLY bad (about 10% of the time), otherwise there is the usual 30 minute push to get out onto the M4, but after that it's usually ok... usual bottleneck at J4b, J5, J7, J8/9 but normally only takes about 1hr 30 to get home.

Can't help with a car share query though
