Just starting getting into mountain biking and got myself a bike more capable than me so looking for somewhere to go..... any suggestions other than Dalby forrest, Beverley westwood, Humber bridge country park?

I fancy the proper rough stuff now and then but tracks and canal paths etc would be good too. (pubs en route also a bonus smile)

I have a cross country set up hardtail bike so nothing 'too' extreme.

I live East of Hull so the closer the better really.

Get an ordnance survey map and mark up all the bridleways with a highlighter, then just find lanes to join them up. That's what I used to do. just remember ... uphill = tarmac where possible!

Park up near to the Raywell scout camp at Raywell and you've got access to Brantingham, Elloughton & Welton Dale and beyond all from the one spot. I've got a few routes that I enjoy depending on time etc. Great area

"Any good mountain biking places to visit around East Yorks?"

Yes... North Yorkshire and West Yorkshire !

Sorry,

I am a Wessie and lived in Hebden Bridge and Holmfirth for years.
Was spoilt for choice of truly epic trails right on my doorstep.

Moved to the Wolds a few years ago and now other than the occasional run round Dalby, find myself confined to the road bike.
Mind you, East Yorkshire is roadie paradise, you can't have everything.

Throw in the gorgeous empty roads for supercharged four wheel fun, as a result not likely to move back to West Yorkshire any time soon.

It only takes me 35 minutes or so to get to Dalby anyway

Affraid that I can't really add much to what's been said above. My in laws used to live in East Yorks and I never really found any interesting mountain biking.

On the other hand, if you pop over to West Yorks we've got more than our fair share smile

Here's my favourite.

Park up near Langsett reservoir and head out over Cut Gate to Laydybower reservoir, circumnavigate that and then return over cut gate.

There's a cafe at Laydybower and the pub on the junction at the bottom of Snake Pass.

If you're on V brakes, make sure you have at least one spare set of blocks before you set off, and I certainly wouldn't do it without a helmet and if you're on SPUDS make sure your boots have tread that touches the floor or you'll fall on some of the descents.

Mint Route.

Thanks for all your input!

I will check out the websites and see whats close.

Yes, as you say West Yorks is far better for this kind of thing as there are hills, woods, canal paths etc etc. I know this because i lived well out in the sticks in West Yorks for 16 years.

I'm on disc brakes and have a bike way more capable than me (Cube Reaction Pro) so it will take most thats thrown at it but i need to be gently eased into it.
