My guess is that they don't think Kubica is coming back in the immediate future and wanted to secure Alonso... with few other drivers of his calibre available in the next few year or so.

With Massa secured to end 2012, leaves their options open for 2013 for a Rosberg/Kubica/Ferrari young driver...?

Hmm, he's been impressive for a rookie, will be interesting to see how he develops through the year.
A Sauber, kind on tyres, going for a different strategy at Monaco will be fascinating test...

Hmmm...start on softs, run just long enough to build pitstop lead over the new teams, then pit for hards and run to the finish.

Could work...

I've heard that if Massa doesn't start delivering decent results,he could be out at the end of this year, despite him being signed till the end of next year.

I agree... he has the odd good weekend.... but...I have never thought he was worthy of the Ferrari drive..

Massa beat Kimi in 2008 and gave Lewis a good run for his money. He was a very good driver, but lost his edge after that horrible smash to the head in 2009.

Good move from Ferrari. If anyone can take Ferrari back to the top, Alonso can.

I know that was tongue in cheek... and, well, much as I'm not a fan of Alonso, but in quali so far he is 0.411 faster than Massa. Small sample set, etc, and I haven't done 2010, but anyway....

Race Alonso Massa Delta
1 84.974 85.599 0.625
2 95.802 96.251 0.449
3 95.119 95.145 0.026
4 85.851 86.395 0.544

Average 0.411

I assume the F150 has been 'built' around Alonso? Another factor working against Massa.

Although he is a dirty cheating muppet cry-baby huge eye-brow mardy dick head, with a st goatee, he can setup, qualify & pedal a car through the field most impressively. The tosser.

Lol, true. The guy can drive, and drive very well- once his toys are in the pram.

Typical F1 driver in honesty, and a part of me wants him to win the championship!

Id love to know how many millions that contract is worth. 5 years in a top 3 team.
