OK, I know this has been 'done' before but the search isn't working and I cant find the threads. So here we go, the water where I live is the worst I have even encountered in my life and I used to live in London. So, im fed up with st floating on top of my cuppa and it looking like the last watering hole for miles (see below for a dramatic representation of my tea).

So, I thought about putting a filter in the cold water supply to the kitchen tap. After searching I found this, http://www.brita.net/inline0.html but it does seem over the top and pricey! Although, it will allow the filter to last longer because of the two supplys. Can anyone recommend this or a simple alternative?

I've fitted those Brita/Pegler filter taps for customers before. They do do the job well and are decent taps in themselves. If you take into consideration the cost of a good quality kitchen tap then the difference in price isn't so bad, especially compared with osmosis filter systems.

I think B&Q sell the stand alone taps for about £30-£40 (may be wrong on price). All you do is tap into the cold pipe leading up to your kitchen tap and connect the inlet hose, this then feeds through a filter (lasts for about 10k gallons IIRC) and through a stand alone tap next to your existing one.

Far too lazy, I'm even fed up with constantly changing the filter in those Brita jugs. Then they shaft you by changing the filter so you have to buy a new jug.
