Just joined the AA and got a flyer through about their parts and labour warranty - Basically, you pay £48 a year and can make 4 x £500 claims against things breaking that they cannot fix by the roadside..

EG - When my airflow meter went, it cost me £550 fitted and forced me to call the AA out to recover my car - As far as I can tell they would of paid for this if I had that cover.

Anyone know anymore about it or have tried it? There is a little small print but nothing major...

Dont talk to me about AA - had AA 5 star European assistance. Little bloody help that was. Never call back when they say (in fact never call back!). Car broken down in France and had to leave it there for 2 weeks.... 2 weeks.....bloody helll, you try living without your car for two weeks!

Then, when fixed said we had to fly back to drive it back to the UK. Er, OK but they will only pay for one flight! But the distance is 1000KM.... nice one....

Useless and before anyone asks, I am writing a nice letter to them this week and demanding ALL of my money and expenses back!

Oh, and while I remember. On the two times that I have had to use the AA recently they have failed to get the car started - so who exactly manages this 80% fix rate then?

Cheers,

Paul

I have signed up for that £48 thing. Hopefully it will come in handy.

I was left waiting FIVE hours once for them because their computer couldn't find the road I was on, and then I needed them to come out for homestart but they said they couldn't find my house because my postcode wasn't listed on the bloody computer. They never sodding well said anything about that when they took my money!
The only time I had any success with the AA is when they were too busy and they sent out an independent garage, he was there within twenty minutes and sorted the problem within 30 (broken fuel pump wire) he patched me up and I was on me way.
But thats just my unlucky experience, I'm sure there are many more satisfied people out there! In future i'm using Green Flag as they use independents, whohave their own garages etc.

AA are pants! I have a blow out and it took some 3 3/4 hrs or so for them to get a low loader to me to take me to a tyre place where I could sort sourcing my own tyres etc. Never got an apology or anything. tossers.

I can't get involved with bad experience stories about AA, as I have never used them. However I do have RAC cover (included with my insurance) and they have performed excellently the few times I have broken down (due to loose connection to the immobilisor) often on small country lanes. They have also been prompt when I needed a jump start (the car not me) at home when the battery gave up.
So a big thumbs up from me for the RAC.

Sorry, but I have to say the one time I have used the AA, they were there within the hour, and half an hour later after replacing a sheared throttle pin, I was on my way. They even texted me after my initial call to state what time they would arrive.

AA I have found to be good, getting to me in less than half hour both times.

RAC, well, thats another story.

First TT in the UK, driving back from a hotel after finalising the details on a mates wedding. Having a bit of fun on the country lanes on the way back and a badger runs in front of the car leaving me knowwhere to go but over it.

Car runs on for about 30 yards and then just about every light on the dashboard came on at once, temp went right up and that was that. Phone Audi Roadside Assistance (the RAC) and informed them that we had broken down on this road in an Audi TT. After a brief argument about how there are none in the country and explaining that it was a press car and that it was quattro they sent out a truck. 5 hours later an escort van with a towing dolly arrives which is about as useful as tits on a pig it being 4 wheel drive and all so off they go again. Another 3 hours later a low loader arrives and finally takes us home and the car back to Audi.

Matt.

Called AA out 3 times over the years, always helpfull;
1, towed immobilised car to electrical specialist
2, Took motorbike home after it failed to start
3, Couldn't get to me for traffic, got bike started before they arrived.
As opposed to Green Flag who called upon a local recovery company when girlfriends Peugeot brakes siezed. Damaged drums, broken speedo, attempted to destroy clutch & tyres etc. I'm persuading her to joint the AA!

Lensey, it covers whatever cars you have. As long as they're under 10 years old.

I must add, the AA have been there for me ever since I joined. No bad experiences.

At the end of the day, there is good and bad in everything. Just down to luck whether you meet it or not....

I've used the AA a fair few times ( I do own a TVR )and they have almost always turned up within the hour, and got the cars started (most of my probs are battery related) so I cannot complain about them at all. They also insure you not the car so I am happy with that.
