You have suddenly been overtaken by the desire to save the planet.

What car would you choose and why.

I'd choose and Lotus Elise Mk1 as its economical, made in the UK and plastic bodywork won't rust into a heap after 5 years.

Right now, I wouldn't have a car at all if I was desperate to go "green". We can walk/run/cycle/bus to work and/or town and use the internet to get stuff delivered if carrying it home would be onerous. For longer trips away we'd hire a car.

I'd recycle biggrin

Far more eco friendly than building a whole new car.

Yep, best thing would be for people to keep whatever car they have.

Exactly. You're helping to get the world off its addiction to fossil fuels by using it all up

I wonder how far you could drive that Pontiac on the fossil fuels which are used to make/transport a Toyota Prius...and it's not like a prius uses no fuel at all...

+1, I can't stand the way 'eco' cars are portrayed, if you want to be a true hippy, don't have a car in the first place.

Caterham 7 with a 2.3 Ford engine, and a split tank in the back, half petrol, half LPG?
Is LPG really "eco"?

Hell of a lot cheaper to run on atm though, which although is not the point of the thread, is what was going through my head when i posted.

I've been trying to survive without a car for the past few months while I do some running repairs to my motor, I'm doing okay apart from shopping days and am finding comuting by train to Oxford and Bath cheaper and less stressful than driving.

These supposed eco cars are draining the planet of precious metals and with maybe 1 exception (Fiska) are not fun to drive, own or look at and are being out-performed by small cars like the fiesta Diesel etc. Where is all this electricity going to come from?

I've realised how lazy I got with a car and now really enjoy walking places on the weekends, I used to drive to the park for a walk! In the short term I think we just need to be more careful about using our cars until the technology catches up with the demands of modern motoring and then to the demands of us car nuts!

Of course this is the correct answer, but if you want to play the game, I'd go for a 1.2d Audi A2 or a mk1 Insight.

Still a lightweight car that won't use as much fuel, or go through tyres and other consumables as often. If you drive it like a girl.
Not unusual that Elises need the front tyres replacing because they've gone old and hard, even though they still have plenty of tread. Just replaced the front Bridgestones that mine came with for that reason.

S1 Elise

Hybrid 911 would be my dream eco car if I can get performance when I need it, 50mpg + eco-waft when I don't, we have a winner. If I assume any given porker will be around for 30 years, it's green enough for me.

I argue my current and last cars are green: Last was a 1997 993 (nothing new needed to be built) and my XKR is, sort of, as I refuse to drive any journey < 3 miles and will walk, cycle, run instead. Ocado delivers my shopping in a nice, shared, diesel van.

I bought a 2litre Mondeo as my Eco car. Apart from the bikes, and the moped (and of course various petrol powered tools), it's the smallest engine I have winkthumbup

Being sensible, probably a Golf Diesel. Not sensible, Jaguar CX75.
