Apart from the mount, what on earth is the difference between these models? The 1005 is £70 more expensive, and a quick comparison of the features and their respective user manuals reveals them to be so similar you could be forgiven for thinking they were exactly the same device.

I think they have very different screens - the 1005 has what TT call a Fluid Touch Screen which is supposed to be rather like an iPhone's screen, so brighter and more sensitive than a regular satnav screen, with pinch zoom available in the Browse Map feature. When it was first introduced its software was less flexible than traditional Tomtoms (at that stage no itineraries or imported POI's) so I suggest you do a bit more research before buying a 1000 series.

I had the same choice and went for the Via125 as I liked the inbuilt mount (it slips in a bag better, ideal for when I am delivering a car to Europe and have to fly home). I couldn't find much difference either, apart from a claimed faster processor on the 1005. The 125 works well, the 5" screen is good, it will be better when the firmware gets updated, at the moment it won't do itinerary planning which is promised in an update.

The 1005 won't do itineraries either. Bit poor for the so-called top of the range.

It is strange, my old 740 live had it (and damn useful it was), I am assured it will be added in an update.
