Passport worries.

We are off to the Greek Islands and the flight is 5am Saturday morning so all up at 1am. Decided to be on top of things and make sure I had a euro plug, some local money and that I had all the kid's passports.

For some reason I decided to look at their pictures and Eeeeeeeek! my eldest's, only 11, passport expired 2 months ago. Thanks be that I looked or it would have been a tearful time at check in.

Got form filled, new pictures and all validated/countersigned and have appointment at the Passport Office first thing tomorrow. They are fleecing me for it though and it almost looked like I would have had to go elsewhere as the London appointments were all gone.

Where's the next nearest office, not Liverpool is it?

Good job I've not got any work on.

Learn from my lesson folks.

Don't mean to worry you further but just so you know its not like the good old days where you were guaranteed a replacement same day.
I've known of people waiting over a week for an emergency replacement. You may still get one quickly but its just not always the same day.

yikes

The guy on the phone said that it was a half hour interview then up to a 4 hour wait. Instead of £49 it's gonna cost me £109 for this emergency service.

My, I hope your are wrong although I did notice a one week service as well as the one day one.

Cheers.

Yes, you'll get it the same day, you just pay a lot more.

Make sure you get there on time for your slot, when I got mine last year in London the place was packed.

Something I check constantly as some destinations insist you have a certain time left on the passport.

Had this happen to me a 3 days before i went away, went to the passport office and as my old passport had the laminate lifting on the edge by the photo they refused to do a same day replacement, so had to pay for it to be rushed to home 2 days later.

The annoying thing is they still charged the emergency fee and the courier fee on top, and the person i was dealing with was about as British as Gandhi!

laugh

I got it at noon then dived into the closest entrance to Victoria station presuming, as a Waterloo user, that all trains go to Clapham Junction and ended up on a train to Dover, first stop Bromley South.

What a prat! I had to go back to London in order to get home again. Wasted about an hour and a half of my time after everything running like clockwork.

Oh well! up to date passports now in bag.

Last time I looked, you can renew your passport upto 9 months in advance and they will add those months onto your new one. This would tie in with the 6 month remaining requirement by some countries.

Hope you remembered your EHIC cards. And your travel insurance - Nationwide Flexaccount and HSBC Premier Accounts are giving free Travel Insurance to regular account holders (no interest paid).

Glad you got sorted smile

Least OP found it in time.

We were packing luggage into car for trip to airport and I found daugthers passport was expired. Had to delay/reorganise BNE - HK flight for 24 hrs later losing 1 day in HK for xmas shopping. Ended up getting a sheet of paper from consulate, 1 way 1 use temporary passport. I was certainly not Mr Popular. Renewed her passport in London in 1/2 day.
