Insurance for young driver

My son is about to enter the world of driving as such I have been attempting to get him so insurance for his 1.0L corsa.
Attempt is the operative word here as the quotes coming back for a 17 year old seem to start at £5500.00 upwards.
Can anybody suggest any insurance for 1st time drivers as £5500. for a stty corsa is taking the piss a little.

they are specialist insurance company mainly for modded cars but they were they only ones who would insure me when I first passed, also I hate to say it (advertise them that is) but if you look in the back of Maxpower or Redline mags they have tons of adverts for insuring young drivers

Try Admiral or any of the Admiral group - Elephant, Bell etc.

They usually are one of the cheapest for youngsters..

Adrian Flux didn't insure anyone under 18 when I tried them last year.

I've just got insured on a 1.8 Ford Focus for £1600 fully comp and I'm 18 which I think is pretty cheap. It's with Admiral on their multi-car policy so might be worth a try. The customer service was fantastic aswell.

Adrian Flux have been utterly useless for me every time I renew. I'm 20 and with Admiral, they seem to be very good for young drivers.
Also, Corsas are notoriously hard to insure, even if it is a 1.2.

Are they? After quote hunting for months Corsas were the easiest thing for me to get insured on when I first started driving. 1.0 though because 1.2 is basically a Ferrari to the insurance co.

My son is 18 and will hopefully pass his test next month. We are in the same boat and are not sure what car to buy. Don't really want to go down the classic mini route has a friend of his just had a non fault smash and the way the car folded up surprised us.

Personally I would be happy to get him an old snotter 3.6 Jag for 500 quid and pay more on insurance but not actually had a quote yet.

£5k for a Corsa is a piss take but we won't even consider a car that will get a feature in Barry Boys !

The problem might be linked to the specific car too. Try getting quotes for different cars, a Corsa is always going to be linked with a young male demographic, and therefore 'risky'.

Jeez! I love driving cars and riding motorbikes but I seriously hope that private cars are banned in the future before my lot are old enough to drive.

Insurance is very hit or miss with youngsters.. the best thing to do is try different combos and cars... add names drivers, state car is left on road, fully comp is usually cheaper these days, ring round specialists, reduce mileage etc

Adrian Flux don't insure under 21's or 25's can't remember of the top of my head.

Anything in the Admiral group, I'm 19 and Elephant was the cheapest for me.

Co-op through their own website and fully comp quotes via A-Quote are my hot tips, but otherwise it's just a case of trying as many places as possible.

It's pot luck.. try phone the admiral group as suggested above, elephant were the cheapest for me too
