Dishwashers, pro's & cons?
Discussion
I'm very bad at washing up and it tends to pile up until I need something.
So when I revamped my kitchen a dishwasher was high on the list. So I got one (a compact Bosch as it happens but that's not important for the story).
In three years I have probably used it 10 times because it takes as long to load and unload as it does just to wash things in the sink, and it takes something like 2 hours to spray hot water over the plates.
So I'm still very bad at washing up and it tends to pile up until I need something, and I have a funny cupboard with lots of spikes in it

Hope I don't tempt fate but buy Bosch. Had ours over six years and it must be on 3 times a day and never a problem. That's torn it
You have to be clever at loading it though for if you just chuck it all in, not all the stuff will be cleaned.
^^^ This. Our Bosch is also 6 years old and hasn't missed a beat. Just got to make sure you clean the inside regularly as well and descale.

We bought one with the least amount of gadety buttons thinking less to go wrong but that may be wrong thinking. Timer to run at night on the economy 7. Quick wash for the obvious. Never used the intense clean function as you can rinse the stuff first, I think that function is for the doubly bone idle, I am single bone idle and able to rinse.
Some stuff I will not put in. Over the years it has washed the mug decals off. Discoloured and pitted the cutlery, but then it might be cheap cutlery. Scratched the insides of mugs and glass such as pyrex etc when using powder, do all that by hand now. But it will still do a load, make it clean and I understand you may be saving the planet (R4 some years ago).

That way you never have to empty one - take clean things out of one, make them dirty and place in the other. Its like having cupboards that clean.
Oh and ours are bosch, in 12 years only one problem with a broken spring in the soap dispenser, part was £2.00 fitting by me took 5 mins

Good lord.
I didn't know anyone didn't have one.
I've never been with out one, as far as I can remember (I'm 34) and can't comprehend why you wouldn't use one.
Ours is used once every 1-2 days and everything goes in bar the realy big stuff like some pots/frying pans etc.
Our is a bosch, and came with the house it must be 9 years old and still cleans everything well.

Much to the OH's dismay I refuse to have one in the house. Washing up by hand takes just a few minutes and cleans just as well, but doesn't prematurely wear crockery and glassware. It also means there's one more cupboard for storage that I wouldn't otherwise have.
I do get the feeling I'm in a minority on that one, even more so as I refuse to have a microwave as well

I dont have one but there is only me... when I get round to redoing the kitchen I will probably put one in as its now the norm in flats and the amount of my friends that seem shocked I dont have one kind of tells me that I should really get one.fatboy b said:

Just because they have a trendy German name does not mean they are any more reliable than any other mid priced brand.
