Anyone know of a Chim/Griff 500 engine for sale?
Discussion
Does anyone have a spare 5-litre V8 kicking around per chance?
As the prospect of a whole new short engine looms closer I'm vaguely considering the second hand route. It would have to be something where the exact spec and state of the engine was documented and it would have to be a 500 (or maybe an outside chance of an interesting upgrade like a 4.8 or 5.3). Technically all I would need is the short engine if it was compatible with standard 500 heads, but I'd be happy to buy the whole lot if the right deal came up.
It would also have to be a straight swap into an otherwise standard 1997 Chim - no rewiring the loom or altering coolant/lubrication systems etc. (probably not relevant anyway?) although I am happy to swap the ancillaries over if that's all that's required to, say, convert a PAS engine to run in my non-PAS car.

Sounds like a lot of metal for the money, but I'm guessing it won't be a straight swap any more?pwd95 said:
The 'tall' engine should be a straight swap with yours as long as the front end is compatible with the serp set up. You'll even be able to sell the Offy inlet manifold & carb to get some cash back. Easy.
Good point. Is the switch to Chevy internals a common mod? Can't say I've heard it done before.
A lot would depend on the spec I guess. I don't want to go for anything too unconventional and scare off future owners, but if it was a recognised conversion that's known to be robust it might be worth looking at.

Will you need to rev the nuts off it to get the performance.
Sounds fun! Possibly not to other people's taste, though, and I can't afford to maintain the TVR addiction forever, sadly. May have to think about releasing the funds for more grown up things in the next year or two, so something buyer-friendly would help.
