Armorfend

What is the approximate cost for this stuff to be fitted to the nosecone of a car? Are there any alternatives (which really work).

Also, would this need to be done by a TVR dealer, or is there such a thing as an Armorfend fitting service/garage?

Armourfend is a franchise and normally the dealer would arrange for the company to come and fit at their premises. The kit for the T350 does not unfortunately cover the parts required to prevent chipped paintwork effectively enough to prevent paintwork damage. Result £6-700 out of pocket, car looks less attractive and problems with TVR paintwork warranty being void.

Dont do it!

I had mine removed! - all that happens is stone chips appear further up the bonnet! - and it goes dull and you can see the lines where it stops. for the cost of the fend you can have a full front end spray!

I had a quote yesterday from Armourfend for just the nose cone and lower skirt for my Tamora. I also asked them for a price to come to my address in the North West to carry out the work:

Front Nose Section £115.00
Lower Skirt £10.00
Travel charges £206.00
Installation charges £60.00

Nett Total £391.00
VAT £68.42
GRAND TOTAL £459.42

Seems mighty expensive to me - £206 travel charge! The alternative was to take it to a partner of Armourfend just south of Brum.

It will look worse on some colours than others, but don't do it! The price of a front-end respray will be less than the armourfend.

If you insist on having it, use a fitter who has done a good job (comparatively) on other cars that you have seen. It's a difficult substance to apply correctly.

Just had it fitted to my 450SE, whole area below nose and on nose, had nose covering immediatly removed, car had just been totally resprayed (see profile) and it looked wrong. Lower sections ok but you can see and I don't know how long I'll leave it on, mine was donw by Invinshield (Under advertisers on PH)very good company and fitting.
I personally would not have fitted above spoiler level.

Made some enquiries and the T350 front nose covering is £140 plus vat plus fitting.
I'm going to wait until just before I sell it and have the front end resprayed... well... it's not going to rust is it?

Thanks for the info everyone - I was just toying with the idea, costs are around what I guesstimated. I have seen TVR Centre's silver T350 with Armorfend fitted and it looks OK, but there are visible lines (to me) where they shouldn't be, and I'm sure it would annoy me, esp. on my Red Glow Pearl coloured car-to-be.

I think I'll stick with a nose job every 2 years (as I did with my Chimaera).

Something that I've come across, is when you are ready to get your car front end painted, drive down to a place that puts on this super-strong stonechip protective epoxy layer... then drive back to your bodyshop to put the primer and paint and clear coat on... then drive back to the other place and get the hardening nano electrostatic clear coat layer.

I had the amourfend removed. On Moonraker black it looked awful in my opinion. Just get good with a touch up paint and have a front re-spray occasionaly.

Hmmm... I was seriously concidering getting it put on mine until I read this thread.....
I think that the dark paint is very susceptible to stone chips so for £200 fitted I didnt think it was too bad...?
I donth think it look THAT bad either...?!

i was considering it too but id never seen it on a car in the flesh until yesterday....

the visible edges look absolutely terrible. no way im getting it done now...

Neil - I saw it on a car the same coulour as I am getting and it didnt look too bad... as long as you clean any polish from the leading edge its fairly discreet... I think I'm still going to get it done (just on the nose), cos I dont want my new car looking like a map of the stars after its first week on the road...!! How's your car fairing up to stone chip damage, cos yours is a similarly dark colour...?

So, er, maybe there's a place that does everything? TVRbodyshop advertise a stone chip protecting primer or somthing like that. Anyone tried it and does it work? (I'm sure it's not invincible).

Its really terrible, front end is peppered with tiny little chips. Map of the stars is a very accurate description. That's why I thought about Armourfend but as I said, didn't like the look of it on a dark coloured Tuscan that I saw.

I'd rather pay to have the front end respray once a year or something. There's a really good body shop about 5 minutes down the road from me who said they'd do it for £250-300.

I have had one new TVR without armourfend and one with it.

It is pointless on the front of the car as the areas around it get stonchipped and you may as well save the money and put it towards a re-spray.

It is good for areas, like the doors sills, around the boot lip and B-posts where the roof pins are on the Tuscan.

I think I'm going to get it done anyway and see how it goes.... If I really hate it I can always get it removed and the front end resprayed at a later date!
