The Chinese have apparently asked Mandy if he would be interested http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2011/may/1...

France want another one of theirs to throw money at keeping the Euro project going.

Germany don't really want the French being too free with their money and would prefer a stricter German that they can control.

Asia and America would prefer a non-European to stop the waste of their money in Europe.

If a non-euro country person gets the job the chances are that Greece will be defaulted sooner rather than later with their next IMF grant tranche needed in the next few weeks.

Current William Hill Odds

Personally off that list for me would be:
  • Peter Mandelson
  • Montek Ahluwalia
  • South Koreans
I can't comment too much on South Korean candidates, as I haven't got any specifics on them.

I would be a little taken aback if France were to carry on passing the batten for the IMF.

We can only hope that Gordon Brown's application for the post will be treated with the same derision as Tony Blair's run for president of the EU.

But please. Not Mandy!

Sounds from the times as though there are good reasons why Brown doesn't really have any chance even if he was up to the job. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/comment/jeremy-...

I have to say I would prefer Mandy over a lot of the others on the list.

Oh, go on then, I'll do it if I must.

I'm entirely useless, but I've got to be a safer bet than Brown.

France's finance minister is now the favourite.
