Hi folks

As promised earlier, we will be trying out different venues over the next few months to
see if we can find a suitable replacement to the current meeting place of the "Tudor Oaks".

The first venue we shall be trying out is one which was suggested by Ceri and is...

Windmill
Charlton
Nr Hitchin
Hertfordshire
SG5 2AE
01462 432096
http://www.charleswells.co.uk/home/pub-guide/pub/windmill

I visited the pub last night and it is a very nice place, with a very TVR friendly landlord and good food. It is also a lively pub which is family orientated.

The pros for the pub are...
  • Easily accessible
  • Rural, but not too rural
  • Good food selection
  • Lively and well cared for
  • Good drink selection
  • Very friendly landlord who is a sports car enthusiast!
  • Family pub environment
  • TVRCC dedicated parking - we will have the car park dedicated to us
The negatives for the pub are...
  • Parking - the pub has a mid-size car park. Ceri and I think we can get about 25-30 cars in it with careful parking and other parking can be made available. It may however be cramped if lots and lots of people turn up.
  • It is appreciated if we spend money at the pub - The food is good, so people buying drinks and the occasional meal would be greatly appreciated
So, what happens next?

We will have the June & July month meetings at the new venue (Google Map links below), gather people's opinions and take it from there.

I have other opinions to investigate as well, but I will do that after the June meeting.

Many thanks,

Alex

Has the Landlord considered for a moment where all his regulars will park? I went there for Sunday lunch a couple of weeks ago (on Ceri's recommendation!) and yes, nice (if modern) pub but at 1;00 PM the car park was FULL. Had to park with two wheels on the verge in line with about 4 other stragglers.

Not wishing to pour cold water on ANY move away from the Tudor Oaks, but I just don't think this place will be "comfortable" for a meet. But let's see how it goes.

Nick.

Hi Nick

I think you're got it in one, mate!

That's the main and only real concern both Ceri and I have with this pub - the parking. The landlord has said that we will be able
to have the car park to ourselves, but it may - perhaps - indeed become a point of contention if things get very busy. It's not a question I can answer until we try it and see - hence the proposed trial period.

If it all works out - great! We have a replacement biggrin

If it doesn't - well, we shrug our shoulders and try the next one on the list.

As I said in my newsletter this month (or was it Sprint?) - be prepared for a bit of shifting around tongue out

Thanks, A.
