Anyone here had a no fault claim and not told their ins co?
Discussion
My car has been dented by another driver who admits full liability. Their insurance company are going to sort out the damage.
Now I know that legally you are supposed to let your insurance company know when someone hits your car, but I am insured with Admiral. This might not seem a problem, but once Admiral have been notified, they will increase my next renewal by at least £250
How can this be fair when the incident was 100% the other drivers fault?
Will Admiral be informed of the incident if I don't report it?

There is no real system in place to check that your vehicle was involved in accident x with vehicle y at z date. The MID just shows Vehicle details and Policy Number/Insurance contact details.
The TP insurers will be happy to deal with you direct as involving your insurance could result in them paying out extra fee's for hire car etc. So if they don't tell them, and you don't tell them...
However, in a situation where there is a non fault accident settled by the TP insurers, it shouldn't make a difference to your premium if you're insured through a decent company and would most likely just result in a file log.

That's the crux of the problem. The Admiral group will definitely charge more at renewal even if I just log it with them. It just doesn't seem fair. The TP insurers will be happy to deal with you direct as involving your insurance could result in them paying out extra fee's for hire car etc. So if they don't tell them, and you don't tell them...

Agreed, but you can bet your arse they will adjust their payout accordingly if you don't declare and they investigate.I got stung for years for the fact somebody smashed into my car whilst parked. I didn't even claim, I just rang them up to see if they'd cover any of the legal fees. Premium went up, despite no further action.
I bit the bullet and declared, you can try elsewhere if you find that morally reprehensible, you'll probably get a better service as well but you'll have to pay for it of course.
Your reg and details will be noted on the claims database by the other insurer, Admiral group like many other companies cross reference information to find out if a claim has occurred and not disclosed (either at new business with CUE or mid-term via Hunter searches) this could result in an additional amount of premium to be paid.
Page 7 of the Admiral policy booklet states you must tell them if you or any driver named on the policy are involved in an accident or if the vehicle is damaged.

That's the kind of info I was looking for, thanks.Page 7 of the Admiral policy booklet states you must tell them if you or any driver named on the policy are involved in an accident or if the vehicle is damaged.
It looks like i'm stuffed then. Goodbye Admiral group at renewal.
Just to nore: there is good statistical evidence that a driver who has been the 'innocent victim' once is more likely to be again. My mum went through a phase a few years back where her car was magnetic... no real reason, just that people kept reversing into her, rear-ending her, etc.
I must admit I thought it was a leagl requirement to notify your insurance company of any accidents.
It is annoying though as I was involved in a smash back in February. Third party completely held his hands up and everything was sorted out pretty quickly because of this, however my renewal with Aviva came through this month at £160 more than last year - the main reason being the accident

Zollar, can you confirm something for me? If you have 2 cars on 2 policies, and have a prang in one car (and obviously liase with that insurer), do you have to inform the other insurer before renewal? I was told not in a thread a couple of months back.Page 7 of the Admiral policy booklet states you must tell them if you or any driver named on the policy are involved in an accident or if the vehicle is damaged.

If you are the policyholder of both cars or named on both cars then yes, the claims question is regarding the drivers history not the cars history.HTH
i might have known someone a few years ago, that had two different cars on different insurance policies (albeit with the same insurer) and the car on the classic policy was written off. completely my friends fault (hit an off duty policewoman up the back). all sorted through insurance, classic policy was cancelled, car bought back etc etc. come renewal time for the main car, still the right number of years of no claims, renewed with no penalties. he didn't disclose to his new company when he changed insurers. never had a problem as far as i'm aware.

What is the point in protecting your no claims bonus?
I have always had mine protected, but when it comes to renewal you have to declare previous accidents (only one recent accident in the last 17 years) and it affects your quotation.
PNCB protects the discount you've built when you have an accident. I have always had mine protected, but when it comes to renewal you have to declare previous accidents (only one recent accident in the last 17 years) and it affects your quotation.
