Was it Knockhill on Sunday and over heard that TVR will repair all engines (for free) that have problems caused by worn valve guides and finger followers???

Anyone any experience of this? All I can find is negative comments?

Cheers,
Jamster

That's great news - now there's no excuses left for not buying a secondhand Speed Six - what a great 'Get out of Jail Free' card.

Best service you can give the speed 6 is....

regularly, every day and at 150mph.

Mark my words.

Unfortunately what you heard isn't true. On older cars they will 'assist' with the cost but not cover all costs.

That was the thrust of what I learned recently when finding out about this as the factory. For those who flog the engines from cold and within an inch of their lives on racetracks - don't think that you will get a free rebuild every season, that is not the case.

The factory try to be sympathetic towards customers and judge each case on its merits. BUT cars should be well looked after and serviced correctly/regularly by TVR or their agents.

Got very positive help from the factory when I rang them up, once I'd told them that it had a full dealer history, never been tracked, and had already been in for one rebuild. Waiting to get the throttle bodies sorted before I really test them on the deal they said they'd probably be able to do for the valve guides, so we'll se...

What's likely to happen to the Speed Six goodwill when TVR is sold off? New owners of TVR may just wash their hands of the Speed Six, ditch it and stick in a V8 instead, then what?

Manufacturers have some sort of legal obligation to support cars for a number of years so a new owner would have to take that into account (before installing a BMW straight six ).

I've had my Tusc for two years now. It was first registered in April 2000 and I've serviced it as per it should be. It has cost a bit but not on the engine. Just clearance adjustment which aint cheap but the only things that have failed have been a window sensor and the pod went wibble but the factory fixed it for - if i subract the dealer's labour and postage - about nothing. I've just fitted nitrons to cure the bouncy front end and its a babe.
It's cost me less than three g in two years including the nitrons.
Make your own judgement.

Can I ask if it had a rebuild for the finger followers before you got it, and how many miles it's done?

[Edited to add:] Ah, 3000 miles from your profile, answered my own question!

mcspreader, can you get in touch with me offline...

Muckspreader - you haven't exactly racked up big miles(I've gone further on me bike) - how do you resist driving it? Is that £3K plus running costs (petrol, oil, etc) plus depreciation (say £7.5K)? How much a mile is that?

Just to add to that - not sure if it has been mentioned anywhere else, but did you know that TVR can "interogate" the ECU to get general running information - like maximum revs, oil temp etc? Not suggesting that they do much, but for those owners who dont look after the engines according to the guidelines, well you can make your own mind up.....

Maybe this is what has been happening?

I don't mind that TVR can see how you treat the engine, but if you run it in properly and always let everything (also oil!!) come on temperature, you should be allowed to "use" it. Mine won't be used on trackdays, but since I travel in Germany a lot I will let it work when it's warmed up. Otherwise we could better buy other cars. I don't want it standing in my garage just to be used a few thousand miles in sunny weather, for me it will be my every-day car, only taking the bimmer when I have to do more than let's say 300 km a day.
