Which in your opinon is the best out of the famous German trio?

Mercedes losing there build quality a few years back?

BMW now hasn't got the same image as it once had in the past?

Audi's always loosing to BMW in global comparassion tests due the "handling" issue?

I would like to hear everyones thoughts?

Had all 3..

Had a Mercedes E320 W211 - Terrible build quality. Absolutely shocking POS. I will never ever buy another Merc in my life.

Had an Audi RS4 - Tremendous car with suspect build quality and high running costs

Currently have a Z4M - Car has cost me peanuts in maintainability, nothing gone wrong in 2 years.

All in all, for all year round performance go for a Quattro Audi.

For the best IMHO go for a BMW and get a spare set of winter tyres..

I'll get my coat!

These days I reckon Mercedes are building the best cars of the lot. Ten years ago, Audi were probably building the better cars. Ten years before that, Mercedes were the best. When Mercedes makes a mistake there is room for the competition to try and move up, but it hasn't taken them long to get back on top.

Best at what?
BMW - handling.
Merc - comfort.
Audi - those damn stupid led sidelights.

Depends which one - they all have good cars in their respective ranges -:

BMW - M3, M5, 335d (only 'cos I've got one so I'm biased)
Audi - R8,
Mercedes - Anything with an AMG badge on it

<stereotype>

Mercedes are for people too old to buy a BMW.
Audis are for people who can;t afford a BMW

</stereotype>

Seriously though I'd take BMW over the other two all day long. In fact, I have smile

Eh? Who says that? Sadly last I check Audis cost more for the equivalent car than BMW, although you do get slightly more for your money.

Mercs from about 1995 to 2003 were pretty rubbish - corrosion problems and mechanical - then 2003 to 2006 they were better but still not as good as the pre 1995 cars.

Then in 2006 they got their act together and mow make superbly built cars (although the new W212 E class is IMO not a well built as the previous Mercs and they had a lot of problems with injector issues on the 220 and 250 CDI) and my 2007 E class has been brilliant after 300k miles. thumbup

Don't have much experience of Audi but id prefer a E over an A6 or a C over an A4, but quite like the A5's.

Saying that I think Mercs are a bit doddery so I'd go for a BMW 330 thanks!

I prefer whichever one makes a model that suits my requirements and budget at the time (currently none!)

The German brands go in a cycle of cool.

A few years ago, the reps drove Mercedes, Audis were boring and BMWs were cool.
Then the reps moved to BMW, Audi became cool and Mercedes was boring.
Now the reps have moved to Audis, BMWs are boring and Mercedes is on the way up again.

Give it a few years and it'll all start again.

Mercedes are the best for me - mainly because I was brought up with my dad having them.

Don't like BMWs at all. Audi's are nice, and great build quality - but I don't want to own one (excluding the RS6), very bland.

That's the sad thing about stereotypes - they are often out of date. Now you buy an Audi if you can't afford a VW!

I had similar dilemma last September.

Was looking for a "Sports" styled diesel. Was looking at nearly new.

I looked at BMW 320 M Sport, Audi A4 S-Line and the Merc C220 CDI Sport.

After driving/weighing everything up I went for the Audi. Got a fully loaded, Special Edition, Ex demo with 4400miles bang on my budget.

Absolutley love it.

In short I thought there was not much between them.

But....

BMW too common (and my FIL had one at time), I felt too "young" at 30 for the Merc (my Dad has one), and I loved the Audi as soon as I sat in it.

Depends which models. I think the SLK is better than the TT or the Z4, but I'd probably have an A4 over a C Class or a Three Series, unless it was the high performance one in which case I'd probably have the M3.

You just can't say one manufacturer is better than the other.

I saw (and heard) a guy put his toe down in what I think was a C63 AMG today, it wasn't doddery. smile

In response to the OP, I would go for Merc or BMW depending upon my requirements.

Having owned variations of all 3:
1. Audi
2. Mercedes
3. BMW - their current interior and exterior styling is imo extremely dull plus the hire car I had over Xmas got stuck in 1cm of snow.

Servicing is best at Audi, then BMW, Merc are dire.

Let's assume that the op is not a rich bastid and is looking for a affordable car shall we!

Yes. The AMG models are ace, however, I'd still prefer an M3 thanks very much Father Xmas. smile

(Mercs = doddery)

They all have their merits in each different 'type' of car, I think - what car(s) are you looking at?

BMW's interiors (while well built) are boring as st, my experience of VAG dealers (Audi & VW) has tainted me forever and while the M cars are more subtle and finessed, I find myself in the AMG classifieds more and more often these days...
