x-pipe for SLK55 ?
Discussion
Does anyone know where i can get one of these please? I've been trying to find one for weeks now. I'm talking about the straight through pipe that replaces the resonator box after the cats but before the rear silencers. I know Supersprint make one but i've tried 2 supersprint retailers and they can't get one. Does anyone else make an x-pipe for this car or does anyone know where i can get a supersprint one?
Thanks in advance,
Richard.

The X-Pipe is primarily an American thing, there's a company that sells generic exhaust components, the only they use for the SLK over there is designed for a Mustang, or something along those line
Have you not tried getting one from Supersprint directly? Still listed on their site? However, its massively expensive for what it is, as SS usually are. A couple of (UK) guys on SLKWorld just went to an exhaust fabricator and got one knocked up for £100, its nothing complicated. I'll see if I can find the thread.
Best bet is to keep trying for a supersprint or you have two main choices, either magnaflow (which you can get similar at a Powerflow dealer), or one of these if you want to spend a bit more.

I've got the Superspint x pipe and it transforms the car.

Thanks a lot for the replies. So you reckon its worth keep trying for the supersprint one? I'm not sure i like the idea of getting one custom made, i want good quality. Cost isn't a problem as i will be fitting it myself and being in the trade can get VAT back on the exhaust price.
You said it transforms the car griff, is the rest of your system standard? The main thing i want is a louder tickover and louder at low revs when just pottering around. Does the supersprint pipe give you this?
Thanks,
Rich.

There's a couple of vids on YouTube for the XPipe, like here:

I just resent paying ~£400 for what is just a peice of bent pipe. I can understand it for manifolds and backboxes, when flow and design are more of an issue, but for centre sections, I think its a bit rich. Although I had a full SS system on my old car, and it was very good quality.

Had the x-pipe mod carried out last week. Worst thing I could have done. When up to temp too loud and a terrible sound compared to standard. Lots of comments at work 'CAR SOUNDS ROUGH' looking to replace back to standard. Also had a full set of Fulda Sportcontrol tyres fitted, totally ruined car, like riding on jelly. Beware, please do not rely on internet reviews, it has ruined my car. Will be going back to standard resonator and PS2 tyres. I spent hours deciding on these changes and should have relied on my own experience building kit cars as a hobby, but no the internet seems to effect us all. Some repair jobs on various forums are a joke, mainly from America and take you through the most difficult route possible. Is there no common sense and practical skills left in this world????? Clive SLK55 AMG currently suffering.
Make sure you get it done in a decent place. Infinity exhausts hand built my xpipe and removed the secondary cats. Best thing I ever did - the car should have come out of the factory like this. They did it for £250 and it only took them an hour, was very impressed. The car has a proper V8 sound now - the great thing is, around town there is little difference, but when you put your foot down the sound just blows me away...and everyone else, it gets a lot more attention now (I guess it depends whether you want this or not). Some people worry about drone on the motorway, but there is absolutely none with mine. I gust never tire of the sound, especially with the top down. Think TVR levels of noise. Youtube videos don't do it justice btw

In which case, they've done something wrong. Take it back.Regarding tyres, you need to be careful when it comes to reviews - as I've found myself, tyres that work on one car, don't work on others, usually due to weight/profile. I had the same issue when fitting Toyo T1S to my Alfa GTA - great on my previous car, but felt like jelly on my Alfa GTA. Switched to Michelin PS3's and all was right with the world.

I would echo the X pipe comments.. I had mine done at infinity and it just gave it a deeper, more bassy burble. Are you able to upload a clip to youtube?
Hi, Yes had mine done at Infinity due to all the good reviews, but still don't feel the car sounds as good, yes louder when you give it some gas but just doesn't suite a car of this mark. Also the rear silencer hangers are stretched and the left tail pipes stick out more than the right, can't see the AMG stamps on the tailpipes anymore. This has been a nightmare for me and all down to so called good reviews. Any advice greatly appreciated cos i am slowly losing it !!!!!!!!. MattyB_ said:

Hi MattyB, Had the mod carried out at Infinity who are reported to be the best and apparently have carried out hundreds of these mods. Cannot fault their weld quality but the the rear silencers are catching on the heat shields because the silencers are pulled back with the left sticking out more than the right. Had PS2 tyres fitted today and handling is back to norm so just need to sort out the exhaust mod. Was not expecting this (thought they were the best). Sheppac got any pics of these tailpipe woes?
Infinity did mine (2005 SLK55 - x-pipe and 2nd cat delete) and my right ride is ever so slightly 'more in' than the left, but you have to look REALLY hard to even notice it, only due to my OCD levels of looking.
Hi, Yes i am so finicky when it comes to my car i had the wife take an eye test cos she doesn't seem to see what i do !!!Infinity did mine (2005 SLK55 - x-pipe and 2nd cat delete) and my right ride is ever so slightly 'more in' than the left, but you have to look REALLY hard to even notice it, only due to my OCD levels of looking.
There's about 5mm difference, the left being out further than the right as yours is but both boxes are around 20mm too far forward. The other thing i noticed the left tips get much hotter than the right, the gases feel much hotter. Been driving today with top down and really draws attention but i still feel its too much for this class of car. Just feel that folk are thinking 'another boy racer' so tending not to gun it as i did before, some of the fun seem to have gone! I will try and post a pic tomorrow. Regards, Clive.
Hi Guys,
Good to see so many have been to Infinity for this very common mod on all AMG Merc's. As stated by most on here it really gives the AMG V8 an awesome growl. Seen so many being done now. Obviously not always to everyones taste but there is always a choice of just having secondary cats out with no X-pipe if you don't want so much noise. Also the complaints about tailpipes being out of line slightly, bare in mind that Stainless steel does expand and contract with heat so that could be the issue there. Also bare in mind Infinity do offer lifetime warranty on any work they do so any troubles you just have to contact them and they will do there best to rectify issues like misalignment.
Hope that helps
