As above really, I have a classic mini but havent really put much thought into it breaking down. However, after a brief think I am going to put a mini (no pun intended) toolkit together, I want to leave my proper tools at home so I think this will be a halfords trip, however money and space are factors. So far I am thinking of-

-Spanners (8,10,11,12 and 14mm)
-Sockets (as above)+ratchet and extension bar
-WD40
-Hammer
-Cable ties
-17 mm wheel brace

What other tools do I need to carry about with me on a classic car

You are missing:
Duck tape
Random bit of wood (trust me its really useful)
Multi meter
Araldite
Bit of wire (good for quick electrical fixes and tying up hot stuff)
Screwdrivers
pliers
A hacksaw blade

I own a classic Mini and im a mechanic. The only tool I keep in the car is my AA roadside relay card. Sod messing around on the hardshoulder or at the side of the road trying to fix somthing fast. I would rather somone else turn up and recover me to my house or at least turn up with an array of tools.

I assume you mean a real mini not the BMW 0.5 series by 'classic mini'? if so I'd have thought you need real imperial spanners not those silly french metric things? or did BL ruin the mini with foreign threads?

Its a Rover, sorry if any offense was caused. tongue out

And ive been pretty busy replacing lots of parts on it for the last few days and my metric spanners seem to be doing the trick.

I carry a Draper Value Toolkit in a couple of my cars.

They're cheap, come in a nice blow moulded case and contain sufficient tools for most jobs I'm likely to attempt at the roadside. In fact, it frequently gets used for ad-hoc maintenance tasks when I can't be bothered fetching a proper toolbox.

Cable ties, gaffer tape, WD40, some wire and a small funnel are also worth carting around.

It appears when working on mine, towards the end of production they decided to use both, which is fun.

I call it being realistic about what's likely to happen if you drive around in mileagey teenaged vehicles.

The only thing I carry in my modern daily is a spline drive screwdriver set so I can get at the fusebox. Anything else that goes wrong will most likely need a recovery truck.

I don't see a classic car in your fleet, do you drive one? If you do you'll know it's worth taking a breakdown kit of tools and spares with you.

As someone said, my AA card. I also have a screw driver and pliers, but I've only used them for camping or emergency DIY at other people's houses.
If I actually wanted to work on the car I'd just have a hammer and a screwdriver.

I keep a clutch cable and a spare innertube, in addition to screwdrivers, duct tape some fuses and bulbs, oh and a big heavy hammer for knocking the wheels off. In the winter I keep a fold up shovel too...
