Without going into the realms of fairytales and Ferraris and the suchlike, and keeping to say a £7,500 budget...What engine and running gear would you put into my S2 ?

Hi,
I think it boils down to just what you want to do, I know many are happy with the engine they have, some like the rover V8, I had no engine with my S so I just went for a good V8, at first I was thinking of a 2.0L turbo cosworth but it was silly money.

Out of interest, why not just buy a V8S? Its a lot less hassle than modifying a V6.
I get as much out of working on my car as driving it so I understand the "project" idea, but it just seems that buying a sorted V8s with the performance it has as standard, brakes, suspension already done seems an easy option?

Depends what you want it for.

If you have money burning a hole and just want bang-per-buck, the most cost-effective upgrade will be to trade up to a faster car. If you'd been quick enough enough, you could have bought Jool's 5.0 V8S outright for less than your upgrade budget. Or you can trade up to a very tidy standard Griffith or Chimaera 500. A Chimaera 400 is probably the best performance bargain because there were a lot of them and they're much less desirable than the 450 or 500, but then you might be tempted to go for a 450 or 500 for the same reason.

So, do you want a faster car, or do you want justification for a fun conversion project?

Hi
There is also the fact that boys like tinkering with things and like making something special and one of a kind

Mick
Its an automatic gearbox and they are a problem in the S, still working how to fit mine in, been looking at a 6 speed manual.

I looked at the bmw 6 speed as there is a kit to fit to the V6 but the gearbox was 1" too wide for 2" where it passes the chassis - close but not a possibility as I didn't want the engine 2" further forward.

Hi Mick.
No possibility, everything is possible with a little bit of work and a welder.

I think the obvious thing to do is put a speed six in it , then u keep it pure TVR , as much power as you want and possibly a power rebuild with 100,000 mile warranty .
Purely from and engineering project point of view i think a modern turbo diesel would be interesting , wrong for lots of reasons but interesting .
wink

how about a nice ls1 ? I always like the idea of a jag or beemer straight 6 but think space under the bonnet would be an issue?

Nah, the chassis won't take the torque. biggrin

(People kept telling me that, and to this day I have no idea what they were talking about.)
