Right got an issue that I need resolving as I need a car!

This morning I start the car, its fine, put on radio and 5 miles later when arriving at work the radio cuts out and the car starts to stutter. Try to restart the car, no luck its flat. Got a jump start and drove home. Had the lights on and the revs kept dropping so turned them off. Get home and try to restart the car, flat again. Jumped it, gave it a run round the block where I noticed that when I put the lights on, the RPM drops and the battery light illuminates for a second then disappears. Have just gone out to check and sure enough its flat again.

Now is this the laternator not charging the battery or the battery not holding charge? I'm suspecting the alternator given that stuff dies after a few miles?

If it's the alternator any garage/battery dealer, maybe even Halfords should be able to test and identify the problem.
