Recently stranded when steering lock jammed.Luckily, insurance cover helped, engineer disconnected lock and hot wired to get me home.
What now? As I have a good Toad immobiliser/alarm, should I just fit a push start switch, or replace lock? The ignition key could be done away with.

It's a Vauxhall part, not sure if they're still available though.

It's a cavalier B ignition lock. They should be readily available.

If you go for a start button what will you use to switch on the electrics? All the starter button usually does is to operate the starter motor.

Available on Ebay - barrel with 2 keys £13 - Switch £5 or whole assembly £24 inc brackets and shear bolts

Can I extend this thread? I would like to replace my standard cavalier ignition lock with one with an auxiliary position for the radio/stereo.
Has anybody sourced and fitted one?

Surely it can do this already - its just the wiring that needs modifying. I am guessing that the terminal is present on the switch but not connected on a Chim? Or is it not there?

The existing lock can be modified to enable the auxiliary terminal. See here.

Thanks for the responses, I am planning a Car & Bike Installations Ltd key, fob and boot upgrade. I also have read the Chimaera pages article on the modification of original key switch but I am worried about the potential for ‘co** up’ if I attempted it, hence the question should a straight ‘one out one in’ option exist it would make sense to get this done all in one go.
