Which bit of London? I've seen 2 flying over Kew this week (it's impossible to not hear them!)

May have been the Presidential "Sea Knight" Helicopters rather than Chinooks. Aparently there was a practice run from Mildenhall to Buck House today, ahead of Obama's visit on Tuesday. This is probably what you saw.

You'll probably see more interesting stuff coming up to the visit.

I remember when Bush, I think it was Bush visited Northern Ireland, a C17 flew over my house seriously low, will the throttles right back and the ramp open.;. And my house is at least 30 miles Belfast international Airport, but was very near to Stormont.

Possibly the same ones as I saw a little later heading north up the Lea Valley in formation with a fourth Chinook plus a couple of Merlins and a single Lynx.
