Have been thinking about the E92 M3 saloon for a while and am going to drive an official used car next week. However, it doesn't have the EDC. How desirable an option is this? Will I notice any difference or should I wait for another car.

EDC is desirable.....don't buy without one.....it does make a difference and is well worth having!

Same applies when buying a C63 AMG: dont do it unless it has the LSD. Nobody will buy it off you at resale and the car wont be as good. EDC is a must on the //M.

Personally I have it and appreciate it, but people without EDC still love their M3's!

For me it is Comfort most of the time, Sport for a sportier drive, and Sport Plus only for track days. I understand the non-EDC car is similar to Sport.

I made the comparrison because like you I was dead set on having EDC. It was a good job I did because it made my mind clear.

Its a gimmick - make no mistake. People do and WILL buy cars without it especially when they've experienced both. Cars without EDC are perfectly damped - have you EVER heard or read a review on the E92 that claims it to be too soft? Me neither! Sport plus on the other hand is and has been considered too hard - especially for the road. I mean lets face it who out of all of us is going to notice THAT much difference between the 3 settings? Remember the price hike in the E92 means that it is a different car to the E46. Its grown up and matured so trackdays will see less E92's in the main.

Its personal preference of course, if the buyer likes these toys then fine but to say people wouldn't buy an M3 because of this is a innacurate and a huge generalisation.

The question you need to ask, is do you have the ability to utilise the different settings, or is it just for a pissing contest?

I have EDC and I am sort of with you here - I always ask myself what sort of difference it would make on a lap time - for me I doubt if it would be very much, for a F1 driver then yes I think it would make a difference. I got EDC as the rest of the car was spot on spec wise but I am sure I will be glad come resale time!

Ahhh yes, resale, i agree that 'must have' dictates these things, but i would love to have the ability to extract the maximum from standard suspension, let alone an adjustable one. I do however salute your realism sir. clap

Agree totally, tried it with different tyres on road and track and it did make a big difference but it struggled to cope with the loads that the cups put on it but it still did well.
