Hi just got an E46 M3 Smg.
Now the shift light worked when I got it. Not sure if I have some how stopped them working. All I have done since I have bought it is put on 4 new tyres.
Would this stop the shift lights working?

What mode are you running the SMG in, I think it only works in manual mode

I only use the manual really. I have got them coming on now but they are a lot less obvious than before I had the new tyres placed.
I have to really give it the beans to get the lights glowing.

Your need to rev it hard for them to work, if you gradually rev it to the red line they won't work.

Foot flat down, and they come on a good bit later on... like around the 6.5 - 7k mark.

I have never seen these lights in 4 months of owning the car! Must be far too gentle with it.

As above, foot through the floor and leave it there whilst running through all 6 gears, just for testing obviously....

Try again then you big poof!

You been driving it too easy! hahaha

They come on the rev counter, and its really in the upper reaches of the rev band, you will see the yellow lights start to go on round the rev counter (they are yellow, like engine is cold) as the needle climbs, then the last 2 will be red.

Peak power in these things are around the 8k mark.... so bash on! and stop driving it like a girl!

Agreed.

Dont think i have ever taken her past 7K... mechanical sympathy (misplaced or not) always kicks in... plus preservation of my licence of course...

As Shibby says, they light up yellow anticlockwise i.e from the 7k mark back to the 4k where they turn red. Then on you're into the rev limiter if you don't change gear.

Just remember to keep your eyes on the road and not the rev counter! (use your peripheral vision)
