We'd like to hire some jet skis in France later this year on holiday. What do we need to obtain so we can go off on our own? Last time we were there, the hire place mentioned some sort of European license.

Cheers.

I'm guessing what your after is an ICC (International Certificate of Competence) PWC license, any RYA training centre should be able to sort you a course to get one.

I've hired in France before (Les Sables d'Olonne). They do an escorted group thing, an hour, with basic instruction & no quals required. Or you can go off and do your own thing with an ICC (and a hefty deposit).

Just a little note on the ICC.

I'm going back a few years, but when I got mine, the cost was about £40 for the certificate from the RYA, or it was free if you're an RYA member.

Membership was £35.

silly

I'm fairly sure it doesn't expire either, although there's a date on it (about five years), they write to you when it's about to run out to offer a new one, no further training needed.
