Whats going on with my tyre?
Discussion
Grr, this is pissing me off now. Such an unlucky car, Mondeo st220, 2004. Only had it 7-8 months, had one wheel bent by a pothole, steering wheel makes an odd noise when turning, engine light on for 3 months etc etc. Time to hit autotrader or ebay I think....
Anyway, long story short, totally my fault but wasnt paying attention a couple of weeks back and ran wide on a mini roundabout, clipping the kerb.
My journey ended about 1/4 a mile away and i checked the wheel. No damage, but the tyre looked terribly deflated. I came back 8 hours later expecting it to be flat, but it was at the same size. It looked much more deflated than the other tyre (both front).
Anyway, drove it home, felt totally fine, assumed it was just my eyesight, as they are low profile tyres on 18" wheels.
Cut to today and went to the pet station to put some air in as i have a (brief) motorway journey tomorrow. Pressure on the front tyres is meant to be 34psi, on the side i didnt hit, it was about 32, however the tyre i thought looked low was well down to 24psi.
Annoyed with myself for driving it on 24psi for a couple of weeks, but i blew it up. Looking under the car, i see this wheel is now bent aswell on the inner edge. Not as bad as the one which hit the pothole (which had to be knocked back into some sort of rounded shape) but bad enough for me to clearly notice it. So the car is now running on two bent wheels...
Could the impact knock it down to 24psi from 30+ but not fully deflate it? It doesnt strike me as a gradual leak as it would surely have gone flat in the time that i drove it from having the impact. Doesnt make any sense, i'll keep an eye on it i guess.
And finally, as i was pumping up the tyre, i noticed this;

What the hell has gone on there? The two lumps are clearly sticking out of the tyre, and there seems to be a rip in between them both. I thought maybe it was the self-sealing stuff you can put into tyres, but as far as im aware, the tyres dont have this in them. At least i never put it in, unsure about previous owner.
Any ideas? Could this even be releated to my air problem? I suppose a saving grace is that either the car will be going soon, or the tyre will be changed due to the amount of tread left.
And anyone else had a problem car? I've never had problems with a car like i have this. Granted, some of it is my fault too, but things just keep getting worse

If those sitcky out things are rubber then it seems, as if the tyre has had a puncture repair done on it twice, with them being done close to each other I would guess this has cause a weak area in the tyre and it has split between the two repairs when you hit it.
The puncture repair plugs look a little like valves in the engine do (except made of rubber obviously) and the person doing the repair pulls them through the hole and cuts off the excess leaving the little rubber bits you can see.
I would get a new tyre.
