Advice pls Oil Pressure drops to zero on acceleration +video
Discussion
Evening gents,
Not sure how long this has been happening but noticed it today. My oil pressure gauge reads 30-40 PSI during normal operation, it now drops to zero on acceleration and returns to normal when you lift off. I am getting no oil warning light on the speedo.
Here is a video showing the issue.

Serious or not?

It could be a loose connection or broken wire on your pressure sensor.
You can see the sensor either by looking in down the drivers side of the engine, or by taking off the NSF wheel and it is behind your shock as you look in.
Or it could be the connection is broken inside the sensor. So its worth checking to make sure the connector on the top of the sensor is still attached. This becomes detached (I think its only glued in) and rocks back and forth with the engine movement, eventually breaking the wire inside which then makes and breaks a connection as you drive.

I really think it'll be a gauge or sender issue....... You should have heard my mates followers clatter when he lost pressure
...
Hydraulic followers are a very good audible early warning system..... If yours is staying quiet, I'd suspect oil pressure to be ok...
Still be nice to find Thad fault though
Thanks Quinny, I am kinda hoping that is the case. I had an issue a few months back where exactly the same was happening with the oil warning light... it would light up on acceleration but the gauge was showing all OK. I re-seated the connector and order was restored

I am getting no warning light this time and the engine sounds all OK.Like Ian said it might be that same issue but for the gauge. TVRs do keep you on your toes that is for sure. I bet you don't have these issues with the Aston aye?

Could be worth skimming through this one:

The £16.00 Ebay oil pressure sender solved it for me.

I had exactly the same issue as this about a year ago and drove over 2000 miles with it.
It was the oil pressure sender. Changed it for a new one and it solved the problem.
If the dashboard red light is not coming on then you don't have an oil pressure problem. The pressure reading falling towards zero on acceleration is to do with the force upsetting the insides of the sender.
You could check the electrical connection from the sender, which on my car sits in the centre front bottom of the engine and looks like a little shiny pot. But it didn't make any difference to mine, so I changed it.
Once changed I found the new one read 10 psi more than the old one, so the old one was under-reading anyway.

Orange light/red light - it didn't come on so I don't know what colour it actually is!!
Despite sorting out the connection to the sender this didn't help and the fix was to replace the oil pressure sender itself (I'm guessing it has a diaphragm inside which might be flexing under acceleration loads giving the reducing readings??)
In spite of being told it wasn't a big issue and the oil pressure was fine I couldn't help watching it when I put my foot down and it still worried me but I did drive the car right across Europe for 1000 miles and the engine was fine.

Hi
I had an intermittent problem with my oil pressure guage, checked the connection and the cable had become hard and the isolation was brittle. This was probably caused by the heat from the headers, cut the cable and managed to re-route to get enough slack to remake the connection.
Problem solved
