confused

Going on the M11 yesterday at Redbridge and it's two lanes all fine, sitting behind some generic black hatchback, possibly a Peugeot with nothing in front of him. Fine, he's sitting in the left hand lane as was I, probably doing 65 or so.

It gets to three lanes and knobhead in front immediately indicates and pulls into the centre lane, with absolutely nobody in front of him and appears to actually slow down. confused.

My wife who was driving keeps on going in the far left hand lane and goes past him on the inside at a tad under 70mph. I looked back and there he was just sitting there like some retard in the middle lane doing 65.

Noticed a few MLMs yesterday, my wife actually flashed the guy in the blue Renault as she had to jump two lanes to overtake him on a clear bit of motorway, but to his credit he pulled over immediately.

What goes through these people's heads, have they no idea of driving on the left or the notion of lane discipline?

Motorway driving should be included on the test because it is pathetic how many people simply don't know they are meant to use the left lane.

If I can be arsed, I flash MMLs, then pass on the right in L3, and head back to L1. Occasionally the flashing works (without them getting irate!), and they move to L1. I pass in L2, then back to L1 only for them to move back to L2 for no reason.

Here's how the process works:
1) cruise control set to 60 mph - check
2) not having to change lanes in case when someone is trying to join the motorway - check
3) switch the brain off - check
4) sleep for the whole journey and wake up 500 yards before your exit - check

What gets me is, as you come from L1 out to L3 to go past them, then make a point of indicating into L2, waiting a second or two and then again into L1, there is not even a glimmer of recognition that they might possibly be doing something wrong.

Idiots. Just too many of these imbeciles on the roads.

I liked the comment about this from a few years ago - someone had suggested you can drive loops round them and count how many loops you can do before they twig.

One loop is: overtake the MLM from L1 to L2 to L3, pull into ML, pull into Lane 1, allow MLM to pass by.

Repeat.

I'm sure he'd said he'd managed 12 loops once.

I've never really had the time to waste trying it, but been tempted a few times!

biggrin I might have to give that a go.. I often do lane 1-3-1 overtakes, so I might have a go with it one day hehe

I always find it helps to have bigger things to worry about, at which point I sail past in any available lane.

I guess MLM's, whilst incredibly annoying, are just looking for the easy life. Sit at 65 in the middle lane and there will be few things you need to react to. They are also less of a risk to everyone than a friend of mine who will cut sharply form L1 to L3 behind them, overtake, then cut across their bonnet on the way back to L1. Take on an idiot and they will soon beat you at idiocy - they've had more practice.

Sort of the same thing, but lately I keep finding people driving along an A road which turns to two lanes for a period of time, and as soon as it becomes two lanes, they indicate and move out to the overtaking lane (lane two) and sit there for the whole duration, and then move back in when it turns back to one lane. Strange. I presume they're trying to stop people overtaking them?

As far as motorway MLMs go - they're morons, simple as that! Same with people who don't indicate, or don't understand how roundabouts work (turning right without indicating or turning right from the left lane). All morons - we just have to avoid them and not let it get to us.

Haven't you twigged yet that they just have no idea - and no amount of 'making a point' is going to change anything?

I used to do as you do above and then I realised that it was completely pointless. Now I just continue along in L1 and go past on the inside (keeping a careful eye out for signs that they might actually move back into L1, pretty unlikely but just possible). Much easier and marginally more likely to make them notice that they're sitting in the wrong lane than doing the whole going out from L1 to L3 and back again thing (they won't be looking in their mirrors anyway).

If I can be bothered, I try to time my L1 pass with an L3 pass by someone else, in the hope that it will wake the centre lane cretin up.

For dualled roads, don't forget the OLOCs (Outside Lane Owner's Club).

Only this morning I flashed a black Golf to let him know it was safe to join the dual carriageway, and he immediately pulled across lane 1 and into lane 2 from where he steadfastly refused to budge, maintaining a speed of around 60mph.
Didn't bother me as I just stayed in lane 1 which was moving quicker (as is usual), but boy did he create a queue! hehe

I have to say I've played this game. I didnt cut them up, just simply went past them in the proper manner and slowed down and did it again. One Idiot actually did whats been pointed out above. Driving in L1, moved into L2. Nothing on the road, no junctions coming up just moved into L2 for no reason. So we managed 4 or 5 circles before they got the hint and pulled in. IMOA they need to be told as I'm sure many of the MLM's dont even realise what they are doing.

My Niece has had 7 driving lessons and yesterday we were on the mototrway, I mentioned about MLM's stating she should keep left at all times. She was not aware of this and asked why. I explained the reason for it an pointed out all the morons on our route, hopefully she will stick to it.

Had a couple, (not MLMs, OLOCs, but just as bad.), on the Edinburgh bypass yesterday.

'T' plate Mondeo followed by a white van doing 65 in L2 of a two lane DC.

I wasn't in a particular hurry but I passed the van without moving from L1 and happened across a slower moving vehicle in L1 so I indicated to change lanes into the space between the car and the van. Cue flashing, hand gestures and tailgating from the driver of the van.

I ignored his protestations, passed the car and moved back to L1 where I then passed the muppet in the Mondeo to a fanfare of hand signals and horn.

So I continued in L1 till I was a good 50 or 60 feet in front of him when I had cause to change lanes again to pass another car in L1 so I changed lanes then the spacktard in the Mondeo accelerated till he was almost invisible to my line of sight behind me, (I was driving a fairly asthmatic VW Sharan), and starts blasting his horn/flashing his lights at me.

Cut to a minute or two later, and I've retreated to L1 after passing the car and Mongtwot has resumed his sub-limit speed and is still in L2 with the van behind him while I am making space between me and him.

Then, somewhat predictably, as we approach our exit he brakes quite hard then veers across both lanes and into the slip road, pulls up behind me at the traffic lights and starts flashing/beeping/gesticulating again.

I've never felt more inclined to 'have a word' with the tit but I had the family on board which always levels my intentions.

True to form on entering the next 2LDC he assumes his position in L2 while I diappear in L1.

WTF?!?!?!?

Better a rant on an anonymous forum than confronting the MLM in person. When the MLM's mend their ways, the weekly MLM threads will cease.

Saw a Citroen C1 hog the middle lane for about 10 miles or more with nothing on the inside lane and not enough power to have a hope of overtaking anything. At one point, acdrs over and undertook it simultaneously - still nothing and when I exited the motorway, it was still there.
