I have had a bit of trouble getting the injectors off the rail. Is it just brute force or is there a knack?

Yep !

Twist 'n pull, only an O ring holding them in but can be very tight.

It depends which type of fuel rail you have. I have the type that threads it's way between the plenum chamber rather than being sandwiched between the inlet manifold and the plenum. That had little metal clips holding the injectors into the rail but the injectors only had o-rings holding them into the manifold. Well o-rings and 20 years of crud so they were seriously tight. I cleaned my injector holes with a cotton bud and carb cleaner then a bit of engine oil on the new injectors helped them slid in.

It is easier to remove the rail with the injectors attached then remove the injectors from the rail. I did it the other way round and it was a right pain in the proverbial.

Saying that you've probably already managed it or have the later type of fuel rail!

When refitting it is far better to fit them into the rail first and then do the awkward bit fitting them to the manifold. The reason is that it is possible to damage the seal when you install the injector, and the top seal is safety critical and absolutely must not leak because it's holding fuel under pressure. The bottom seal is just stopping air leaking into the intake and frankly nobody much cares whether it leaks. Make sure the sealing surface in the fuel rail is scrupulously clean because even a minute spec of dirt can be enough to cause a leak.
