...you don't happen to live in/near Scotland, Wales or national park?

All terrible around me. I have to drive around 20miles north to the Otley region to find any good roads!

I learned to drive around Otley. The roads to the north towards Harrogate are great. Tight corners, steep hills and the occasional chance to get airborne!

Funny - I was thinking of creating a "Your favourite mile" thread this morning.

I was going to add Kennels Lane near the Qinetic/RAE buildings in Farnborough, although I don't think it's even a mile.

Tight with straights and a few twists, it seems to scare the beejeebars out of most people, but if it's quiet I love caning along it - Starts and ends my day nicely!

Less fun when it flooded and then froze into a skating rink though! frown

Many years ago I worked for Digital Equipment and on 'Notes' (Anyone here from CARS_UK?) we had a similar thread - A few of us agreed the A31 from Farnham down to Winchester was an enjoyable, under-rated drive. A lot more is dual carriageway now, but it's still a good drive, up and down, curves (more than bends).

If you're oop North, it's a bit of a drive but there's some crackers in and around the West Midlands area. The A4117 that runs through Cleehill near Ludlow is a favourite.

The A458 and A442 from Stourbridge to Shifnal is a rather enjoyable route, too.

Explore b-roads.
Look for roads where a dual-carriageway main road has made the old A-road redundant.
Get up early and do your fun driving at dawn while everyone else is asleep (not so easy in winter hehe).

+1 my old stomping ground. Many a new renaultsport product was given a shakedown round there. If you imagine a corridor with Masham, Ripon, Harrogate to the east and Skipton, Grassington and Hawes to the west I reckon that covers most bases with regards to driving roads.

Sadly the London end of Essex doesn't offer the same. frown

True - except for the stupid 40 mph limit... frown

Which I scrupulously obey at all times...

I'd imagine it'd be great fun at 80 or so...

I swear it was a 50 limit about a year ago?! My dad says it was a NSL years ago...
