I have a mint 2000 P1 with hayward and scott centre section, backbox, STi panel filter and walbro 255 fuel pump.
I dont want to modify the car in an obvious way, and would rather it passed MOTS with no problem as it does at the moment, but would like to return to Torque of the Devil for a follow up remap and achieve 350bhp instead of the 302bhp i got last visit.

Any simple ideas?

Thanks

A new E.C.U and a full remap would be my next step mate somthing like a emerald or MoTec. May be abit exspensive but if you get a good mapper you should get 350hp and maybe more and keep the same mpg your getting now or even better and the emisions should still be M.O.T conpatable but it all depends on how good the map is and the mapper. And in the future if you do want to go abit crazy with her lol it would be alot easyer and cheaper because the mapping potencial is allready there.

If it's a mapper you are after the message Vixpy (owns Surrey rolling Road) and he will put you in touch with someone good.

Last time i spoke to him about mapping my scooby he mentioned he had had 2 600+bhp scoobs in that week.

ETA I believe Jolly Green Monster did the two i mentioned.

Speak to Jolly Green Monster or ScoobyWRX.

Personally I am not sure I would heavily mod a special edition as it kind of defeats the purpose a bit wink I could get flammed for this statement rofl

No need for a new ECU. A TD05 18g and a remap would solve the problem nicely.

yes and you already have the ECUtek licence on your ecu so a remap will be cheaper this time, even if you use a different Mapper (which your going to have to as TOTD has gone and Chris Todd no longer maps, which is a shame as he is a damn experienced mapper and a great guy)

I'd get in touch with Simon at JGM for the mapping and advice.

Paul, I am inclined to agree with you I must admit. That's why mine is almost standard. And only 2 owners from new. But I have had her for 5.5 years and another 40-50bhp would be fun.

Is Vixpy saying that after having been to TOTD my ECU is now open to easier tuning? In which case I was thinking that as last time I had a K&N filter plus was on Sainsburys 97 RON, that with the sti panel filter and a tank full of Shell 99 perhaps the next remap would be different maybe better?
Or is there another simple mod I could do pre-remap and then I could get nearer 350bhp?

ScoobyWRX is a good guy, always answers my questions in these forums, so wonder what his recommendation might be.

Your not going to hit 350 on the standard turbo, you may get close to it with a front mount and full decat, but you ultimately will need a bigger turbo.

Damn. Definitely don't want a front mount intercooler, I hate that look and that stops it looking original. Full decat means MOT is harder to pass doesn't it?
If TOTD got me from 256 to 302 on first ever remap with just K&N, centre and back H&S and 255 fuel pump with 97 RON, do you think you or BOb Rawle can get anymore with the STI panel and 99 RON being the only difference since TOTD a year ago?
Cheers, Lawrence

Yes, absolutely.

It does not mean that you just take your original exhaust along with you and hope for a tame MOT'er. Because that never, ever, ever works.

Especially not for the last 3 years in a row.

That's what I thought.

Might just have to leave it as is, and just wait to buy a weekend toy!

Talk to Simon(JGM). I'm sure he can map the P1 as he's an EcuTek dealer.

The only later scoobs i can't map at the moment are V5-V6 as i'm not an EcuTek dealer. Everything else is no problem.

ETA: The P1 is a nice bit of kit out of the box as it is however the mechanics of tuning it to 350bhp is pretty much par for the course and no different to any other scoob as it's a very straightforward process.

Whether or not the engine/gearbox can take it is another matter so you're better off asking someone that knows P1's intimately.

Sell it and get a newage 2ltr STi. They map to 350 with just the mods listed in my garage. Easy wink

The value of your P1 will drop once you start hacking it about, so when you get the urge to do that you might as well chop it in...

I only like the original shape Scoobs, apart from the interior obviously i think all the ones built after 2001 are not as pretty.
I'll stick with how it is, maybe just go for one last remap and see what happens but it is still very quick, stops well and has never missed a beat. Probably best leave it that way!

Look at putting a later STI top mount intercooler on it. They can support over 400bhp. Then change the turbo, maybe injectors and your good to go.

The prodrive Sports Cat is a good option as its not that restrictive but will allow you to pass an MOT.

Have a look here for upgrade options and expected power outputs:

That Andy Forrest site is good, i have seen that before. Maybe i'll change my spark plugs and go for another remap with Shell 99 and the STi panel and see what i get.

New turbos and intercoolers sound a bit too far down the modifying route for me.

I have seen loads of P1's and STI5/6's with remaps and the same mods as you reach no more than 320 on the standard intercooler.

The STI Newage Intercoolerw has the potential to see 400 with supporting mods (including a much bigger turbo) as stated above, and it will fit your car with minimal modification and look factiry to the untrained eye. You can buy even bigger aftermarket topmounts from APS and Hyperflow as well.

But that little VF28 turbo and 440cc injectors wont quite get you to 350bhp.

The cheapest way is to use a newage STI single scroll VF series turbo, an STI8 intercooler and dumpvalve and a good set of 550cc injectors for the phase2 engine.
Add a remap and you wont get way past it, but you should definietly hit 350bhp with the mods you already have. Lag on the VF will be a lot less than a TD05/6 20G.

Expect to pay £1000 -£1200 all in if you buy good second hand parts. The biggest single cost will be the EcUTek licence.

Bob Rawle (BRD) or Simon (JGM) would be my choices for the mapping.
