The newly refurbed St Pancras Hotel is an architectural and interior design wonder. It also does killer Martinis and a great lunch.

There are two bars and two eateries. I drank and ate in The Gilbert Scott, which has its own entrance on the left of the grand curved driveway. The Pugin interior of the bar is stunning. The restaurant is not quite so stunning, but it is handsome. Marcus Wearing has created a grand brasserie in the Wolseley mode, but with a more determinedly British menu.

If you arrive in a cool car (eg a Jensen Interceptor), the hotel doorman may let you park in front of the building.

  • I discovered this last week when attending a party in the Lobby, at which I drank water. For the lunch I arrived and left by cab, and drank electric soup.
