well yesterday was the second race meeting of the 2011 MR2 Championship, down in sunny, showery, windy Norfolk.

the car was performing well all weekend and managed 3rd in qualifying.

this meeting included heats and finals. for those not familiar it means they fill a grid with the slowest qualifying times (this becomes the grid for the heat) and the drivers left over go straight through to the first final. the same happens again to grid another heat and that leads to another final.
Due to the entry numbers only the pole position car went straight through to the finals so the rest of us had 4 races!

Heat 1: i started 2nd on the grid and lead the first 8 laps before surcuming to the pressure of the guy who started the race in 1st. we battled to the chequered flag and i finished in 2nd place.

Final 1: i started 3rd and was leading into the fist corner. also leading into the second corner but then locked up the rear tyres and spun 180 degrees and stopped in the middle of the track! i found a gap to jump in and ended up on the back straight in about 10th. battled my way up to 6th and in the process broke the lap record :-). i battled with my mate who was in 5th for the rest of the race swapping places constantly. on the second to last lap a car dropped oil onto the hairpin and i hit it spinning 3 times onto the grass. rejoined and after taking a place back regained 6th to the chequered flag. not bad considering my moments!

Heat 2: i started 3rd again and this time all the drivers were in the heat due to non starters. I had probably the most frantic rasce of my life with 2nd-6th in a battle for the first 2/3rds of the race. i was generally in the 3rd place with my team mate in 2nd. we broke from the pack and got the last lap board comfortably. i was all over him but couldn't find a way through, going into the second corner he drifted well wide on the exit and i flowed through on the racing line. As he regained control he tried to jump across the grass and kerb to carry some speed onto the back straight. he skided across the track and wiped out the back of my cars sending me into a fish-tale. As i drifted over a kerb one of my tyres blew out and that was my drive over. :-(. devastated.

this meant i started the second final from the back of the grid!!!!

Final 2: to cut a long story short, i started at the back and made my way to 10th in the 10 laps we did. pretty pleased with that and was pleased to bag a few points at least. It was pretty intense though i have to say.

So after the poor luck i'm pretty pleased to still be in 3rd place in the championship.

I'll get some vid links up soon but haven't taken them off the camera yet.

to make things better there were 2 Nobles in the car park looking great and it was nice to meet one of the owners.

cheers

Well done, James! Glad the practise paid off even if lady luck wasn't with you. Have to say that I do like the new circuit.

James, Thats some great viewing... Love the risky overtake through what used to be called Corham, You were working at the wheel pretty hard.
It looks like really close racing which makes it all the more fun and great to watch.
I think with what happened on your weekend you can be pleased to walk away with some points and look forward to the next round.
I'm surprised you weren't on the full track, Was there somthing else going on in the middle?
Well done, Matty

P.S. We had a good day at Cadwell Saturday.. I'll try and get the Report up today.

Cheers mate.

Definitely get your report up, I like reading about what other owners have been up to!

I'll get the other videos sorted soon. The second final was a good one working through the pack.

Def Not beating myself up too much with the end results. Much as I'm v competitive with it I do it for fun and so long as I'm still enjoying it that's the main objective.

The overtake at Corum was a funny one. It was only possible as he was slowed slightly by the purple car in front so I just carried some speed in the blocked the turn in. It is hard work round there in the MR2 though. When I was at the track day the week before I was pushing really hard round there and RobP was right on my bumper just cruising round... Shows how good these Nobles are!

Look forward to reading your report.
